Julian's sucks! Horrible service. 45 minute wait for an omlette. The food is nowhere nearly as good as the menu descriptions. Great interior, but that's not enough for me. This was my second crappy visit -- there won't ever be a third. Avoid Julian's at all costs. [12 May 2003 09:31:43]

We loved Julian's! We have been there for breakfast 3 times so far and each time was delicious! The service was great and the atmosphere very interesting! [09 Nov 2003 22:38:52]

Nice variety for vegetarians... ...but that's the only plus. Everything is dirty and the waiters are terrible. I've eaten there four times for breakfast, and twice my food has come out incorrectly. The music is good, as is the decor, but that's not enough to keep me occupied during the hour I waited for the wrong food. [20 Dec 2003 16:02:01]

Feel bad for the other reviewer I've had nothing but good luck with Julian's. I like the dinner food, and thought the breakfasts were so so. But for a place to hang out, see and be seen, and in the meantime, enjoy some great dinner, as far as I'm concerned they're hard to beat. [08 Feb 2004 02:32:41]

Interesting food, painfully slow and indifferent service I had been to Julien's a few times for dinner, and while I was always fairly impressed with the menu (always changing, and usually full of interesting combinations), I had received consistently poor service. Things like seating next to a horrible draft (more like a steady wind) in the back of the restaurant during winter, being seated and waiting 10 minutes before having a drink order taken, and then another 20 minutes before we had our actual order taken.
Anyway, I decided to try their brunch because of the great reviews here and because I figured service wouldn't matter as much. I was impressed by the variety of food again. I doubt they change their brunch menu as often as their dinner menu since it's mostly "build your own", like an omelette with any of three fillings. But they have a great selection of fillings (the usual, plus things like black beans, blue cheese, chicken), and toppings for pancakes (your choice of milk or white chocolate chips, for example). Unfortunately I once again waited a long time after being seated to place my order, and our simple order of two omelettes took about 25 minutes to be prepared.
Julian's seems to know they've developed a reputation as the hippest place in town (I saw no fewer than four Providence Kickball League teams represented among diners), so they just don't care that their service is terrible.
So, go for some interesting foods like spinach and blue cheese hash, but don't expect a wait-staff that puts in any effort. [08 Aug 2005 14:07:44]

Good place The earlier reviewers must be nuts.
It's pretty laid back with great food. I like that the dinner menu changes for the season. For breakfast, I wish I could eat there more often. There are only a few places in Providence that serves breakfast. Julian's just happen to be the best.
The wait & service might be slow. I'd rather knowingly wait for a table where good food will be served than wait for a table where food is mediocre. [21 Aug 2005 10:11:06]

Julians is amazing I can't believe people are saying Julian's is dirty and has bad service. Taking a decent amount of time to bring out some very good food does not make for bad service. It means the restaurant is incredibly popular and packed, which results in more meals being cooked in the kitchen, which means the servers don't have meals to present to you in ten minutes.
Julian's brunches are to die for... they have different omelettes, a variety of interesting egg benedicts, pancakes, egg sandwiches, oatmeal/fresh fruit, vegan/vegetarian brunch options... and damn good bloody mary's. Not to mention all the specials they have which change daily (the main menu also rotates every few weeks). They have wonderful side dishes. The waitstaff is friendly without being overbearing and annoying (does this make them "terrible"?).
The wait is long because this is a restaurant worth waiting for. Otherwise, people simply wouldn't do it. [09 Mar 2007 18:07:49]

There are not enough good things to say about Julian's. My husband and I leave speechless, laughing and shaking our heads, the food is so incredible. It's art on a plate. Always changing, unique, and interesting. The wait staff is friendly, laid-back, and genuine. We see no reason to go anywhere else. [21 Sep 2007 20:00:28]
