The flavor of rustic Tuscany on RI's East Bay
Beautiful both inside and out, the Tuscan Tavern has a wide variety of rustic Italian dishes and the service is as good as the food. Meals are served with a selection of delicacies from the antipasto bar, such as marinated mushrooms, Italian olives and prosciutto. Entrees range from the simple (wood grilled pizza) to the gourmet (pork loin in wine sauce). They also have an nice selection of pasta dishes and desserts to die for - especially the tiramisu.

On weekdays, the Tuscan Tavern offers a "piccolo menu" until 6:00P.M. which has smaller, reduced price portions of the regular dinenr menu. It can get quite busy during this time so reservations may be in order.    [06 Dec 1999 10:32:55]

Incredible Northern Italian food
Visited the Tuscan Tavern on 2/5/00. Food was unbelievableI ordered a dish called Vitello Dante,Similar to a veal marsala only much better. My husband ordered the Tuscan Prime Rib. It came in a portobello mushroom, wine au jus,and was the best prime rib I've ever had.Service was excellent! It seemed like there were five people waiting on us.Manager visited our table, very pleasant, nice touch.Ambiance very nice.Restaurant was extremely clean. Now we have our own little piece of Italy in the East bay!    [09 Feb 2000 08:49:19]

Just don't go on a holiday's eve
I agree with other reviewers that the food is good and the prices are pretty good too (especially the piccolo menu), just don't go a the eve of a holiday. We made the mistake of going there on New Year's Eve and were suprised to see a totally different menu with prices substantially higher than usual - like double! I was unhappy, but we stayed for dinner. I wrote to the owner about my disappointment in the higher prices - and not being told this when making my reservation. I never received a response. This year, three years later.....I called for a reservation for Christmas Eve. I was given a reservation or dinner and specifically asked if the regular dinner menu would be available. I was told it would be. After being seated, "special" menus were given to us with - yes, you guessed it - those high priced dinners again. I told our hostess that I had asked about the menus when making the reservation....she, rather rudely, said the person who took the reservation was unaware that these special menus would be used. We left. It seems to me, considering the circumstances, we should have been given the regular menu. Poor management (ownership)    [11 Jan 2004 17:11:06]

Don't expect to be treated well
I live close by and often take out from local restaurants. Over the past year I have had many experiences with bad service. I once called for takeout and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. I arrived after 25 minutes and was told it would be just a few more minutes. After 20 more minutes I asked for my money so I could leave. The "hostess", after avoiding me for that 20 minutes left to retrieve my money. After several MORE minutes returns with the food. I begrudgingly take it and leave, not being offered my money back or even a real appology. I bring it home and it was not fully cooked.

Considering that there were only 6 cars in the lot I can see why the restaurant is now doing so poorly. My advice, go somewhere else. I will not return.    [29 Sep 2005 18:38:38]

We had a girls night out-8 of us. Dawn our waitress was "perfect"-we wanted for nothing. The food was outstanding-we all shared bits and pieces from all our orders. The wines was delivered in "full" glasses. We all had a wonderful time and would recommend the Tuscan Tavern for another girls night out!!    [29 Oct 2005 14:42:44]

Worst service ever.
I'll start with the good first-- the food was very, very good. My baked stuff shrimp was delicious, the bread was great, and my hubby gave the cod five stars. Very good bread, too.

The service was atrocious. We never got a refill on our water, the waiter didn't offer any soup or specials, out glasses were dirty and we were forced to wait a total of half an hour for our check. I might go back for take out but I'd never eat in there again.    [09 Jan 2008 22:43:40]

Please note the dates of the reviews you read. This use to be a great place to eat. We have been to the Tuscan many many times. Tonight was a very disappointing experience. As the earlier reviewer wrote, the waitstaff was in chaos (and there was almost nobody in the place)The food was overcooked, and the waitress was totally inattentive. Because we believe that you don't get to complain to the public unless you call attention to your issue with the management, we told the waitress that our food was disappointing, and that we had eaten there many times. She walked into the kitchen directly behind us and shouted that the scallops were overcooked. 20 minutes later she told us that "he said he was sorry" (what exactly does that mean?) Anyway, poor service, disappointing food, and management that obviously doesn't care - I give them 3 months before they close.    [06 May 2008 08:32:28]
