Poor Service, Good Food
The only redeeming quality of the inn was the outstanding food (excellent chef). Unfortunately, the level of service from waitresses were sub-par. I also found it appalling that I constantly had to shoo flies away from my food. What B&B suffers from flies in an indoor dining room during the winter?    [11 Dec 2000 18:17:43]

Wonderful Food, Beautiful Decor, Erratic Service
I have eaten here for years, and find it one of the best restaurants in RI. Charming decor overlooking a garden, several rooms allow for small groups, but the food is the reason to come. Sophisticated dishes were all excellent, whether steak, seafood or 'New American' cuisine. The only problem, and only at times, has been the service. Excellent Food Best Service in Years
I have been dining at the Shelter Harbor Inn as often as possible since the eighties. Dining last week with my wife and I had possibly the two best meals we have ever had in the state of RI. I had a tuna special and my wife the duck. The service was great as well, I have noticed a steady improvement here since new dining room managers began work last spring.    [20 Mar 2002 20:24:56]

Great Food and Good Views

Great Inn and Great Food
We have stayed there twice and eaten there often -- coming from out of state, it is a VERY friendly Inn, with neat accommodations and the best food in the area! Recommend it highly!    [21 May 2002 09:31:28]

What the??
The service was well I don't know. The server threw the food on the table while running about 14 miles an hour and was sweating profusly. I enjoyed the flies in my glass of water (that did not have one ice cube in it) but it did allow for me to enjoy the good smell and look at what other people before me ate.    [01 Nov 2002 18:23:33]

You cant beat the food
We have stayed here every year for 14 yrs. The place is the BEST. You have got to give them time when they are jamming but you will get the best food ever so if you are a big timer and can't wait go somewhere else. They won't mind. There's someone right behind you.    [24 Sep 2003 22:42:20]

After four visits...
We are very fond on the Inn and have favorite rooms.
The food can be very good but the menu needs to change regularly! Ask for the special of the evening and chances are 90% that it will be salmon. The lack of a varied menu will limit our future visits.
