Great Fun Place Okay, I definatly love this place. It is this run down shack, with some of the best fried food on this planet. If you want a place to just have a totally casual, fun dinner, come here! [02 Jul 2004 19:03:47]

NOOO Don't Go !!!!! We're trying to keep this the same well kept secret we have had for over 50 years here in the lowcountry! Many people from all over the country make an annual pilgrimage to fill up on their share of REAL SC Oysters, not those "farmed tasteless ones", but real "mudders". Yea, the fried food is great, BUT please stay out of the oyster room. Oh, and don't dress up... seriously, jeans and a t-shirt, or you will be sorry, especially if'n you plan on eaten the oysters!
Oh, and yea the service, well, if you don't have your oyster utensils with you don't worry, they may have a spare screwdriver or butter knife. And Ambiance . . . . well can you get a negative 5 star. Search for pictures on the web and you'll see what I mean. Pay no attention to that man with the shovel! [14 Jan 2005 21:39:42]

Welcome to bowens island i was the lead cook at the facility for six years. i highly recommend this restaurant to people who have never tried or think they have tried real southern seafood. It will be a monumental experience to visit this restaurant. [07 Jan 2006 01:13:29]

Great food, interesting atmosphere I have taken my family for vacations to Charleston since 1998. Each time we try to find some out of the way place to eat that the locals know about but yet not very publicized. Our first impression at Bowens Island Restaurant was "People actually eat here?" We were hesitant to say the least, but we decided to give it a try. The food was fantastic, the staff was friendly, and the experience left us wanting to return again on our next trip. We have going back each year anticipating the experience one more time. You have got to do it! [02 May 2006 16:52:55]

The food was twice as good as the meal we ate in the historic district the night before! Definitely made up for the primitive seating and dining area. ...and the man with the shovel is very friendly when you start up the conversation.

If You Found this Page...You Already Know its Good One of the places I will visit again before I die! Went to Bowens Island when I was a kid..didn't like oysters then,,,but what kid wouldn't love a place where you can write on the walls and the tables and just about anywhere else you want too. I know my parents loved it..seemed we were there alot! Now I want to go back to find my name(34 years later) and have some of those oysters I missed out on! [19 Jun 2007 15:26:12]
