Doe's is trying hard Doe's has the distinction of being the only restaurant group (there are three of them) in the Lowcountry to headline Middle Eastern foods. When I came to Charleston from a city with a huge Middle Eastern population I was delighted. However this is not "Sitoo's cooking". The hummmus is ok but the Kibbee is not good at all (no sense of Mediterranean seasoning). Of course, I have to admit that my expectations were obviously too high. The restaurant has to accommodate local tastes, which may or may not rise to truly Middle Eastern flavors. And it goes without saying that true pita and other Mediterranean flat-breads simply don't exist in the area.
On balance, Doe's is ok. The food is not bad, just not authentic. The people are pleasant and at least the menu tries to be genuine as well as cator to health-food lovers. It'll do until a true Middle Eastern restaurant comes along. [09 Nov 2002 08:16:15]

WOW That other review was simply incorrect, the hummus is great and the chicken salad is a huge hit here in charleston. I can't go to Doe's without spending twenty dollars because I tend to buy 4 things at a time!!! Must eat here if you want a healthy quick meal [24 Jan 2006 18:54:29]

HORRIBLE FOOD I tried this place for lunch the other day and it was simply horrible. First of all, I drive a pretty good size station wagon, and there was no place big enough to park it. Once inside the restaurant I almost slipped on some kind of sauce that was on the floor, and no one apologized for it. The girl at the counter was very slow and unfriendly! My chicken salad was dry and tasteless. I almost gagged trying to eat it. Most of it ended up in the trash and it ruined my whole lunch break. I went back to work hungry. [17 Jun 2006 06:12:06]
