A wonderful, quiet little restaurant. A great place for a quick lunch or dinner. The homemade bread they serve you is excellent! Service is also wonderful! Very nice people! [22 Jul 2003 18:09:03]

Mistral's Reputation Is Just Hot Air! After hearing that if I wanted to have good French food, I should try Mistral's, I was totally disappointed with the experience. The host was friendly enough, but the waiter took forever to bring us anything we asked for. Was it worth the wait? No! The duck, which I ordered medium rare, came back well done. The mashed potatoes came with large lumps that were not only not mashed, but undercooked. The French are known for preparing vegetables to perfection, always crisp and "croquant". Mistral's vegetables were so over done that I remarked to my dining companion that the only people who could appreciate the soft, mushy mixture of green beans, broccoli, and snow peas would be people in an old age home who no longer had any teeth! We decided to skip dessert because we were almost certain to be disappointed. The atmosphere was nice, but the choice of French music with old tunes by Mireille Mathieu and Aznavour left a lot to be desired, especially since there are so many wonderful French CDs that could add to the ambiance instead of taking away from it. (Ex. Henri Salvador's Chambre Avec Vue)! Anyway, all that for $75.00. All I can say is, next time I want a nice French dinner, I'll stay home and make it myself, and put Savlador's CD on the stereo. Great Music Food Ambiance I recently ate at Mistral. I was just "cruising" to see what the City was all about since I had heard so much about the downtown area from friends. As I walked down the street I heard the sounds of some magnificent music drifting out of this small restaurant. I poked my head in the door to see what was happening and found the place was packed and lively. The musicians were parked right at the front door playing some of the best Jazz and Blues. We decided to give the place a try. At least we would hear some great music... We had to wait a little bit for a table since the place was full but we had a few drinks and listened to a great trumpet player and vocalist who was with the band that night. When we did get a table we were very pleasantly surprised by the excellent food and friendly service. The night was perfect! The music was perfect! The food was perfect! [01 Nov 2007 22:53:00]
