The Perfect Bowl of Chili This restaurant recently expanded into the building next door and must be about twice it's original size. The food and drink offerings, however, remain unchanged. This is a Good Thing! I've visited Betty's place enough to have tried just about everything on the menu by now. The food maintains a relatively high quality overall. I did have a Jambalaya, once, that was less good than what I would've been able to get in New Orleans but I only had to drive about 5 minutes to get it. This brings me to the chili... On a cold, dreary day there's nothing that makes me feel better than to walk the 6 blocks up Main Street to Betty Pearle's for a bowl of their Signature Dish... Chili. It's hot (as in temperature) and perfectly spiced (meaning HOT: as in Piquant!) and comes with a perfect pone of home-made cornbread. It's so good it even makes the walk back to work bearable. If you need EXTRA HOT (as in Spicy) you may want to bring your own sauce, as the only hot sauce offered is of the Sysco "House Recipe" Instititional Variety. If you're in downtown Greenville in the evening, anything you feel like eating at Betty Pearle's is going to be better (for the price) than anything you're going to get anywhere else.
