Exceptional Food in a Relaxed Setting At first glance, the very casual - almost funky - setting could be mistaken for your typical fish-in-a-basket beach restaurant. If you try to read this book by its cover, however, you'll miss the best thing that has happened to fine dining in Pawleys Island in a very long time. For a number of years, Chef Orobosa, a native of Nigeria, was the executive chef at Pawley's most exclusive private dining club. He has now opened Orobosa's Lowcountry Cafe, and it is truly exceptional. In doing so, he has retained most of his private club customers, as witnessed by the nightly stream of Mercedes and Jags that find their way into his dirt parking lot.
Having grown up on Southern seafood, we are usually slow to offer praise. Chef Orobosa earns that praise by offering the real lowcountry experience - very fresh, very well-prepared dishes that emphasize local resources, enjoyed in a friendly, laid-back setting without all the pretensions present in so many of the area's "fine" restaurants. The house specialty is crab cakes, but do not miss the jambalaya, the best we've ever eaten. Orobosa's is lowcountry dining, done the way it's supposed to be. [31 May 2006 09:11:45]
