little city with a big restaurant St. John's is one of the best restaurants in which I have ever eaten. Having dined all over the world, I can say without a doubt that this place would stand out in any of the more cuisine-centric cities I have ever visited, including the Big Apple. They use local, fresh ingredients, fish flown in from all the best spots (the Hawaiian fish auction? I mean, come on. It doesn't get any better than that), even local poultry and meat products. The service is attentive but polite, and the wine list stands out as one of the best I've ever seen without being pretentious. There are no $19,000 bottles of wine, but you can find a '94 Gran Reserva Rioja for $64 that will knock your socks off like it did mine. All in all, you can go to a restaurant that likes to tout itself, but this is the place that all the locals will tell you to go if you're looking for a business casual atmosphere with EXCEPTIONAL food. And I mean EXCEPTIONAL. Props to Chef Daniel Lindley and his staff! [24 Oct 2006 19:53:39]
