Description

The bar is, indeed the first thing you see in Spankie's, but the food is the emphasis. There are several specialties including cheese bread, filet of beef, pasta and stir-fry dishes. The atmosphere and dress are casual. There are wood-plank floors, stained glass, and a courtyard with a fish pond.

Spankie's is rather small - 25 tables, approximately - some large. There is full service at night. At lunch, patrons order at a window and names are called for pick-up. Lunch prices are mid-range, dinner somewhat higher.

Spankies Is the Best
Spankies is, without a doubt, my favorite place to eat and drink in Cookeville. There is always a new special to try. The portions are great. The service is fabulous. Spankies has great atmosphere and an eclectic clientele. TN Tech University is nearby and there is always friendly, interesting conversation among the patrons.    [27 Jun 2003 18:25:21]

Cookeville Has Best Among DC, New Orleans, Nashville, and Knox
Spankies is the reference by which all others are judged. While enjoying a $50 dollar a plate dinner in DC I am always reminded that my Jack Daniels filet at Spankies would be at least as good and cost half as much.

I was fortunate enough to have attended Tenn. Tech. and had the opportunity to eat Spankies regularly with my wife to be. The food and service were always top notch.    [26 Mar 2004 11:26:04]

Please, Not That Great
If you do eat there never eat out in the outdoor thingy. The smell is awful. Apparently the disinfectant for the fountain causes the terrible smell. Couldn't stand it. Also they have the worst burgers ever.    [25 Aug 2004 12:12:28]

Spankies Rocks
I went to grad school in Cookeville. Spankies is far and away the best food you are going to find in Cookeville. You never know who you might meet there - from the mayor to students, the patrons run the spectrum.    [28 Apr 2005 16:35:42]

Well my first trip to Spankies was a memorable one. My husband and I moved to Cookeville last year and Spankies was a pleasant surprise. The meal was delicious and the portions tremendous. We will definitely return.    [22 Dec 2006 23:51:38]

Excellent food and great service
Spankies has a flair of an upscale restaurant in larger cities; yet it is casual enough to accomodate students from nearby Tennessee Tech University. They have many unique dishes available from roasted duck, veal, and lamb.

My faves are the steaks, pasta, cajun chicken breast, and wings. The only meal that would be considered average would be their burgers (but if you wanted just a burger, there are plenty other places to go). My first meal at Spankies was in 1994 and I have had many, many excellent meals there when I have been in Cookeville. Great atmosphere to take a date or join with friends. You may see also influential people from bankers to county judges.

In short, Spankies is highly recommended and has fair prices --Bon Appetit.    [02 Jun 2007 09:51:08]
