Bad Service
My husband and I have been to both of the Jonathans Village Cafe's, one in Cool Springs and the other on Nolensville Road and Bell Road (previously Shoney's across from the Exxon gas station), and generally we get good service.

The past three times there has been a lack of good service. The food was cool, the service sucked, and there was not even a mention of having the manager come over and see if everything was okay or if there was anything that could be done to make our "money" come back to his establishment. Twice we have gone in there and not gotten any service at all and we walked out. This is not typical of the service that we have had there previously.    [20 Apr 2003 14:55:31]

It's a sportbar, D.A.!!!
I'm not sure what people expect, but this place is not a family place (but I see kids in there all the time). I can't believe there are complaints on the service; they're concerned about serving beer. If you want service, don't go to a bar!

BTW, the bartenders don't keep tabs and tend to overcharge at the end of the night; watch out!    [24 Sep 2005 10:24:31]

Loud Dining Room, Execrable Food, Pleasant Service
Our waitress was pleasant and courteous, and very charming. She was the highlight of the meal.

The restaurant was loud enough that we had to eat on the patio to be able to hear one another.

I ordered a blue-rare steak with steak fries, my companion ordered baby back ribs with a baked potato.

She received the steak fries, and she had difficulty cutting the meat from the ribs with a steak knife: they were tough and gristle-filled, and the smokey-sweet barbecue sauce coating overpowered what little taste the meat had.

I received the potato, and my steak was over 30% fat: by the time I was done cutting away the inedible bits, it was almost half the size as when it came out to our table; as well, it was cooked to medium well, and the only flavor came from the blue cheese with which it was served.

The only halfway edible element in our outing was the salmon dip, and even that was over-spiced.

Considering the prices, I'd recommend the food court in the mall next to the restaurant: while the service may not be as personable, it would be a quieter atmosphere and better quality food.    [21 Apr 2006 11:15:41]

Now Johnny's Sports Bar!
This restaurant just changed their name to Johnny's Sports Bar (the one on Nolensville Rd. did, not the one in Cool Springs). It's 21 & up now and allows smoking, which I think was a great move for them since it appears that people with kids who were expecting a nice quiet dinner weren't getting that. This is a sports bar, and a damn good one. 30+ beers on tap, flat panel TVs all over the walls, etc. It's the best place in town to go watch a game or a fight, especially if you're a smoker or don't mind smoke. The food is awesome too and is reasonably priced. They've actually cut their menu down to mainly bar foods(nachos, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, etc.), but everything is much more reasonably priced, and you get a lot of food. I love this place! The only thing that we had a little trouble with was service, but it was Friday night and very busy, so we expected things to slow down a bit. We were planning to be there for several hours for a game anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.    [19 Jan 2008 17:54:36]
