Great Date Place I took a Valentine date to Hibachi 97. Thank goodness we had reservations b.c. the place was packed! None the less we were seated promptly and the dinner preperation began. Our chef was brilliant and did all sorts of tricks and throws with his ingredients and cooking utencils. Filet Minon was scrumptous! Great date and very close to a cozy water fountain, and marble slab creamery in Lincoln Sq. Fun! [22 Nov 2006 00:51:30]

Bad Experience To celebrate my husband's birthday on Saturday, his mother called and made reservations at Hibachi 97 on Ballpark Way in Arlington on Friday. We had reservations for 4 at 7:30 p.m. We arrived at the restaurant at approximately 7:20. When we approached the host station, we were first told there was no reservation for our party. My mother in law discussed her reservation call with the hostess Marciella, but the hostess still insisted that no reservation had been made - we would just have to wait in line (LONG LINE, guests were being informed that it was an hour and a half wait). We then saw on the wait list that our name was indeed on the list as a reservation, but it had been crossed out. We showed the hostess where our name had been, and she said they cross the name off if someone calls in and cancels the reservation. Obviously, none of the 4 of us had called in because we arrived at our appropriate time for our reservation! Realizing that the hostess was being totally uncooperative and oppositional, we asked to speak to the manager. He came over and we explained the situation. The manager told the host to seat us at the next available opening. We stood and waited over 30 minutes until one of their large grill tables opened up. The hostess then walked past us and seated a large group of about 8 that were sitting in a waiting area (we assumed that we would be seated at the table following them). She walked past us again and went to a large group that was in line behind us, that had walked in without a reservation - we knew this because we had a good deal of time to visit with them while waiting. She seated them and then there were 3 seats left. She walked over and pointed at us and then waved her finger at the 3 seats. Well let's see... 3 seats - 4 people - hmmmm. We asked to speak to the manager again, and he said "Do you want those seats or not?" We told him it was really bad business and he just mumbled and apparently was not going to do anything about it. At that point, we decided that we did not want them to have our business then (if we could ever GET a seat) or EVER. We left the restaurant and walked next door to Simply Fondue. They were booked with reservations, but were extremely courteous, apologetic and professional. We then drove to Colleyville to The Green Pepper Japanese Steakhouse and had a WONDERFUL meal. Service, Atmosphere, and Food at The Green Pepper are definitely all "5"s! We ended the evening with a great birthday meal thanks to the wonderful people at The Green Pepper. If anyone wants a Japanese style meal with a great show (yes, they do the onion volcano, too) The Green Pepper is definitely the restaurant! FORGET going to Hibachi 97 - it's crowded, noisy and not in the business of serving its clientele. [17 Feb 2008 20:03:38]
