Fresh Home-made tortillas
Casa Alde Cafe, also known as Helen's,is owned by 81 year old Helen Alcala. She get to the cafe at 3:30 in the morning to make fresh flour tortillas. On Saturday mornings, they run out of tortillas and customer wait for around for 30 to 45 minutes for the fresh tortillas to come off the grills. Her breakfast tacos are a meal in a tortilla. The carne guisada is the best. The local high school kids, from Hays High School,have their own favorites, the "fatty" and the "same".    [06 May 2004 12:08:34]

Fantastic
Casa Alde has the best breakfast tacos in Texas, maybe farther! What more could you ask for they are just the best. Helen and everyone there is just the icing on the cake.    [12 Jul 2006 08:43:51]

I don't get it.
This place is terrible. The service is slow and rude. The potatoes they use for the breakfast tacos are FROZEN TATER TOTS from a bag. If you don't believe me, see for yourself when you walk thru the dirty kitchen to the bathroom.    [12 Aug 2007 09:47:30]

So-so
If everything else was closed I would go here to eat. It's nothing special. We wanted chips and salsa and got a really crazy answer - we are out of them! are you kidding me? at a mexican restaurant? the waitress then came back & said they would make some more chips. granted - it's nice to have homemade, hot chips but not if you feel like you're putting out the cook. and they took a long time, were greasy and we were charged for them. there were very few in the basket. when we asked for a refill (God forbid) they said it would be another 20 minutes (and another charge). i don't get this.    [12 Aug 2007 10:19:24]
