Two Big Thumbs Up! Highly Recommended! Greek prepared steaks are among the best in the country, and steaks at The Astor restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas are no exception to the rule. Your steak at the Astor will be basted with a secret marinade and then prepared over an open flame in the main dining area, almost always in view of your table. Each steak is as mouthwatering and delicious as the next. But, if you are in the mood for something besides a steak the menu contains numerous other types of dishes that are very tasty. The waitstaff is always very friendly and helpful. [27 Aug 2004 11:51:53]

GO! This is the classic "don't judge a book by it's cover" situation. The 50 year old building housing "The Astor" has seen better days. Not quite inviting, and they don't help matters with the advertising on their windows. It's on the old San Antonio highway and was probably "the" place to eat 45 years ago. In our opinion it still is. We were visitors from Austin and ate there 3 times in two days! The food is delicious and plentiful and because of the low overhead quite affordable. We got the steaks and stuffed shrimp and were delighted. There's no way I'd go to The Outback, the overpriced/pretentious Omni Hotel Steakhouse or other steakhouse chain in Corpus. The staff of The Astor is friendly and it's locally owned for three generations. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed by the quality, quantity or prices there. If we were locals we'd be regulars. Your Mileage May Vary I ordered the "Seafood for Two," which I was told was one of the daily specials (We asked the waitress twice to make sure). There was a large quanity of food, and it was brought to the table in a reasonable amount of time. However the food was of a quality one would expect at a Long John Silvers.
Then the check came. The "special" wasn't really one of the daily specials. Not only that, the waitress also automatically included the gratuity, even though there were only seven in our party, three of whom were young children. The cashier and the manager refused to honor the special price originally quoted. [13 Mar 2007 19:13:19]
