Oh, How I Miss Anderson's! In 2001 my company moved me from Texas up to Yankeeland (aka Illinois). Two things I really miss are Tex-Mex and barbecue, and to me Anderson's IS barbecue! It's not a fancy place, but who cares when the food's this good! My favorite is their beef brisket which is lean, lean, LEAN! I don't recall ever having seen any fat on it, yet it's still extremely moist with a good smoky flavor. Of course everything is cooked unsauced, but there's plenty for you to add yourself. It comes with Texas toast to which I always added a few sides such as barbecue beans, fried okra, a few dill pickle slices, and a Dr Pepper to wash it all down.
Anderson's is a cafeteria type operation where you go down the line and pick out what you want. But be warned: expect a LONG line, quite often leading out the door to the parking lot, if you get there anywhere around noon. I highly suggest either getting there around 11 AM or waiting until after 1 PM. Whatever you do, though, get there! And take pity on a naturalized Texan and send me some of their sauce!
