Not What it Used to Be-Mediocre at Best My family and I have been dining at Bella Napoli for years, since the 1970's, ever since it opened. We do not currently live in town, but visit often and eat at our favorite restaurants when we do. We ate there several years ago for a pre-wedding dinner for my brother and found it to be quite good; however we were very disappointed this time. We went on December 26th, 2006 to celebrate Christmas with the entire family for dinner. We were very disappointed with the atmosphere, service, and food. We were seated in a back room with televisions that did not have much ambiance at all compared to the main dining area. We waited and waited to be greeted and for our drink order to be taken and our drinks to be brought out. The wine list did not have any decent selections, however they did offer wine by the carafe for a reasonable price which was good considering the size of our group. The waiter appeared to be overwhelmed and needed help, however he was friendly and nice. The size of our group needed more than one waiter. The dinner salads that we ordered were horrible. They were very plain and had no pizzazz. We waited and waited for our food, and when it was brought out four of us were left waiting another five to ten minutes for our entrees. The others at our table had to start eating without us so the food would not get cold. The food itself was very disappointing. Most of the dishes were covered in a very un-flavorful tomato sauce that overpowered the meat selections. The only positive comments appeared to be from those who ordered Eggplant parmigiana, who said it was fairly tasty. Also, we had to ask the waiter to bring out our side dishes of spaghetti, which were not very good either. We waited another five minutes for those. The cannelloni we ordered for dessert was unimpressive at best. Overall, I would say that it was not worth the money or the time, was a disappointing experience, and we will not be returning for any future family dinners. It is quite a shame to see the downfall of this restaurant from the excellent place to dine that it once was. [19 Mar 2007 12:18:36]
