Gunther's Edelweiss is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, but their dinners are wonderful. - El Paso Internet Courier, John Hoffman, 21 March 2001 - suggest change

On the contrary, Gunther's is one of the few restaurants in town where you get your money's worth. Where else do you get fresh bread, real butter, homemade soups, salad, and a steaming, fresh-from-mother's-kitchen entree with delicious side dishes for anywhere from seven to twenty dollars??? It is one of the best places not only in El Paso, but also in all of the U.S.!! An experience! [05 Aug 2003 01:48:52]

Incredible Find! Amazing homemade dishes...Saturday nights are a treat with a live DJ spinnin' POLKA and other great music. Where else can you eat and have the whole restaurant of adults do the CHICKEN DANCE??
I love the salad plate and the soups...
A welcome treat in a city of just Mexican food -- true German delight! [13 Apr 2005 00:51:19]

Great In the summer of 2005 we visited Gunther's Edelweiss Restaurant. We come from Europe (Holland) and after travelling around for about 3 weeks and plenty of Fastfood we were very delighted to find out there was a German restaurant in El Paso. Because the German food is almost similar to Dutch food. We had a wunderfull evening and excellent food. The waitress was a German lady and she was very friendly. I can recomend Gunther's Edelweiss Restaurant to everyone for great food and a friendly staff. [01 Nov 2005 08:05:26]

I Don't Think So. Any restaurant that serves instant mashed potatoes on a dinner plate that costs in excess of $8 should be embarassed to open the front door in the morning. Free bread with your meal doesn't make it authentic. [18 Nov 2005 11:53:06]

Good German Food A real find in West Texas.
This born-and-raised-in-Germany Kerl was surprised to find that the quality of food meets just about any southern German cookhouse.
Two visits over 10 months revealed consistency in the kitchen -- good quality preserved.
The Wienerschnitzel is best I've had in USA, outside my own (learned in Germany). They seemed to be able to find a passable Bratwurst to serve.
The bread served comes from one of two local, excellent (outstanding, considering the locale) German bakeries that serve El Paso. Haven't really had such good Bauernbrot and Roggenbrot since Germany.
The Linsensuppe lacked texture -- the beans were mushy.
The atmosphere is dark and a little cheesy. The bar fares better, but the whole place is a plywood recreation of stereotypish Deutsch.
Waitresses are fantastic and all we met speak German.
I suspect the quality is maintained by the expectations of the nearby German Air Force contingent at Fort Bliss. [23 Oct 2006 21:46:19]
