Dinner for Two
Excellent atmosphere, a little pricy but worth it for a special occasion. Prompt service and friendly waiters.    [21 Nov 2003 10:32:32]

Best Place in Town!!!
Everything was fantastic. Great steaks and great selection of wine. The Tuna tartare was to die for. The desserts need some work but were still pretty good. Actually had every wine they said they did. We even tested the server and he was able to return with all but one bottle (he did point out that the table next to us had ordered the last one though). I would highly recommend this local restaurant and will be going there often    [14 Nov 2006 22:44:48]

OK if you only want atmosphere
We use to go there for dinner regularly. After 2+ years the menu grew old and as you will see, it is limited. Granted the atmosphere is nice however the food is not of high caliber. You can see the kids cooking in the kitchen. Very rare that they had a special. The last time we were there we were 8 which included 2 children under 5. They added 20% gratuity because we were 8 or more. I felt insulted. I know the waiters & always tippped big..I had a party of 18 there the year before & no gratuity was added & I had left Joe(waiter) & the helpers 25%.. I always tipped big..but now they implemented a 20% gratuity being added. I felt embarressed asking however I did & the manager came over & (she) said its written on the menu. I said to myself, thats it.. screw this place & screw the management & owners. I always left them a min of 20% but I'll be damned if Im going to have them add it without asking me. They lost our business. After 6 months I realize that I didn't miss it. The food was not that good. Tuna was dry. Pasta overcooked, never al dente    [23 May 2007 02:02:40]

Excellent beyond anything El Paso has to offer
I am betting the above reviewer is greatly exaggerating his "experience". I have visited Mesa Street numerous times with large parties and always request for the 20% gratuity to be removed, and they have always accommodated me without question. Perhaps the above reviewer was just trying to be a cheapskate and get out of a fair tip. Regardless, I have never had a bad experience, the service is always excellent and the food has never been anything but perfect. In a city where the food is nothing but tortillas and rancid ground beef, Mesa Street is a shining example of true excellence.    [01 Jun 2007 14:30:03]

To
I never go on these sites, but a friend recommended that I check out the reviews we have been getting, so I goggled and came across this place. As expected all seems pretty fair and honest. Including the person who would not leave his name but left his remarks under the cowardly name of "Learned my lesson". The Fact of the matter is I remember this table. The Kids were running around the restaurant and the table had to be asked to "please restrain their children" which of course they would not do. As far as the "kids" in the kitchen, all of our cooks are Culinary School Graduates all with a combined 60 years cooking experience. Calling them kids is demeaning and shows the caliber of "reviewer" this person claims they are. There are three specials every day, a catch, a special and the soup of the day. The Tuna was dry, of course it is when you order it well done, anything is dry when you cook all the liquids out, not to mention is also says on the menu that we are not responsible for certain items cooked over medium, this being one of them. And as far as the 20% gratuity maybe think of it as babysitting charge. The menus change seasonally to reflect what we can receive fresh, so in the 2+ years you have been eating here the menus has changed at least 8 times and been completely overhauled 2+ times. Also dear friend six months from May 23rd would be October 23rd. If you can't add six to the correct month how do you know you ever tipped 25%?    [06 Aug 2007 22:29:51]
