True Texan's Grab and Growl Here You say you want BBQ? Do you want cityified BBQ? Or do you want genuine lipsmackin' rib ticklin' Texas BBQ? If it's the latter this is the place.
No fancy schmancy chandeliers, no ornately decorated table dressing, no, this place is a screen door swingin' indoor picnic table seatin' go to the gas station if ya hafta potty down home Texas BBQ pit. The meat is smoked to perfection, sliced up and served how ya want in.
For me it was sliced beef with pickles onions and sauce. And for dessert Joel's own smoked beef jerky, my oh my this stuff is worth its weight in gold. One good stretchy bite can fill your mouth with flavor for a good hour if held properly in your jaw. They sell it by the pound vacuum sealed. If I had the money I'd buy a pound a day and never eat anything else. If you find yourself on your way up to Seguin from Houston by way of I-10 look for the Flatonia exit with the Conoco sign, you won't regret walkin' through that screen door and up to the counter. The food was very good, outside of a few dry pieces of sausage, which paled in comparison to the impatience and lack of manners displayed by the cook/cashier/bouncer.
While quite obviously looking over the menu choices, we were asked, "Ya ready?" three times in less than a minute, and were delighted to hear a long, drawn out sigh when we were not. In short, the service needs much to be desired, but once you are prepared to get food and no lip, the experience could be quite enjoyable. [04 Feb 2004 03:16:23]
