As a pilot, a place like this is priceless. Next to the Hangar Hotel (meticulously constructed to look like it's a relic from the 1940s...very cool place to stay) sits the Airport Diner. This place is modeled after the old-timey "rail car" diners you see in all the 40's and 50's movies. They did a great job. Ambiance is excellent...all the booths have windows out onto the airport ramp. You could see anything from a Piper Cub to a Gulfstream come in.
My wife and I stay at the Hangar Hotel every time we come to Fredericksburg (once a year for 4 years now), and eat at the Airport Diner at least twice. Highly recommend the breakfast. [30 May 2006 17:27:00]

Nice diner, good food and atmosphere We live in DFW but frequently weekend in Fredericksburg, and often stay at the Hangar Hotel. Breakfast at the diner is great. The atmosphere is fantastic - the diner looks straight out of the 1940s (just like the hotel). Much like the hotel, it is very clean and offers great modern conveniences, while 1940s music is piped softly in the background. Breakfast offers a good hearty traditional menu with reasonable prices - biscuits & gravy, pancakes, eggs, etc. Good coffee in nice heavy diner mugs. Lunch menu is also tasty with nice "homey" items like meatloaf and open-faced roast beef sandwiches, and a good children's menu. Very reasonable prices, good service, and you can't beat the atmosphere of sitting in this 40s style diner while watching aircraft land and take off. You almost expect a DC3 to land outside and Bogart to step out. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a taste of a bygone era, or just a good meal! [28 Dec 2007 15:07:30]
