What Happened to my favorite Restaurant in Fredericksburg???
I must write this. My husband and I ate at your restaurant on Friday, January 25,2002 at approximately 7:00pm.
I had told my husband for about three years how wonderful your restaurant is and how lovely the atmosphere, how attentive the staff, how delicious the food. Basically I raved about your restaurant since I met my husband. The 26th was my husband's birthday and we traveled to Fredericksburg for the weekend. Anyway, to shorten this letter, we had a most eventful evening. We were greeted by a very overworked young woman. She was very helpful and pleasant however. She ended up being the highlight of our evening. The kitchen staff(cooks?) were dressed in aprons wandered in and out of the main dining room. One woman was wearing an oversized "Brown Power" t-shirt hanging over her jeans with an apron tied around it. She was very sloppy and very unprofessional and dirty looking. This was very unnerving. Other people milled in and out of the kitchen aparently having nothing to do or trying to avoid work. There was also a small child (little boy) that wandered about the dining room walking up to the tables and talking to people (whom I could tell didn't want to be bothered.) When he wasn't pestering the customers he was playing with the bowl of nuts near the pastry case. He then proceeded to go back into the kitchen area and came back out with I assume his mother who just happened to be the one with the t-shirt. She took him behind the dessert case and opened it up. He then proceeded to lean into the case to determine which dessert he wanted. When he checked them all out (both cases) he pointed to one piece of what appeared to be marble cheesecake. His "mother" removed the platter with the cake and other desserts off the shelf and the boy reached onto the plate and chose his piece with his barehands while she was watching. She was not the only one watching. My husband and I saw this fiasco as well as others in the restaurant. I was embarrased that I brought my husband into your restaurant.
As for the food, the jagerschnitzel was wonderful. The potatoes were not hot nor was the cheese potato soup nor the red cabbage.
I'm sorry to write this letter. I just hope that you are glad that I did and take some action before the word gets around. I am willing to try again. But believe me I'll call to make sure the owner is in town and on the premises. Please feel free to email me. I do want to hear a response.

I recently ate dinner at this restaurant, and was very disappointed. The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. I had heard about the wonderful homemade breads, but we did not receive any bread with our meal. I had also heard that the desserts were exceptional, but our waiter did not bother to even ask us if we wanted to order dessert. On the whole, the experience was not pleasant.    [01 Jul 2004 17:53:22]

a good experience
We visited the Der Lindenbaum Restaurant in March 2005 and had a very pleasant experience. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated, then were met with a very polite and professional waitress who answered several questions concerning the menu. The food was brought out promptly and was absolutely fabulous. Excellent jagerschnitzel, potatoes and rosekraut for me. . . and the Sausage special with German potato salad for my husband. We were both very pleased that we had chosen to eat in your restaurant. At least two other employees came to our table to be sure everything was satisfactory. The only suggestion: find a method of making waiting guests feel like you want them to stay. Write their names on a list in the order in which they arrive so they aren't worried that someone who arrived after them will be served first. Several waiting diners left before being seated because you had no method for knowing who should be next in line. Overall, great experience!    [19 Mar 2005 17:40:26]

In A Work... YUCK!
My wife and I flipped a coin between going here or the Auslander. I wish the coin had gone the other way. Our waitress seemed like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders. She seemed surprised when I asked her if any of the dishes offered spetzle. "We don't serve spetzle here" was her reply in a curt voice. Ended up sharing a grose salat platter and each of us opting for the goulasch. The Salad was ok, but the goulasch flat out was horrible. Even swimming in a rich gravy the meat was dry. What a disappointment.    [04 Dec 2006 00:37:01]
