Our favorite place
Fabulous food, well worth the price. If you can get Gabriel as your waiter, the entire dining experience will be well worth the final tab. Nice areas for smokers and non-smokers (they are separated)to enjoy a meal and conversation.    [30 Apr 2003 23:17:38]

This is our favorite restaurant in Frederciskburg!
We come to the Hill Country every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas and we ALWAYS make time to stop at this place. All of the schnitzels are great but we have been most impressed with the steaks...try the one with mushrooms. It is excellent.    [20 Dec 2003 15:43:19]

Tourist Trap in a Tourist Town
Friehelm's is a classic tourist trap restaurant in a toursit town. So what would one expect other than high prices for average German fare?

Friehelm's is fine if you're a member of an out-of-state tour group climbing off a bus and looking for kitschy faux Texas-German-Hill Country ambiance and fare. However, if you want a real German-Texas Hill Country meal then skip Friedhelm's and go elsewhere.    [17 Mar 2005 22:34:19]

Typical Tourist Trap
Very disappointed in this place now. Food was always rather pricey but now they serve only one side with your entree and extra sides are $3.75 each. Seems they have gotten really greedy lately. I am a local and I will not go back there again. Must think they are the only restaurant in town.    [09 Jul 2006 13:05:11]

Don't miss this place if your in Fredericksburg
We have been going to Friedhelms for years and the food is incredible. I will agree that lately the focus seems to have shifted to attracting the tourist and the prices have increased while the sides included with your meal have decreased but the schnitzels are the best!    [01 Sep 2006 00:54:54]

Beware of
The menu at Friedhelms shows "Market Price" for steaks. On 9-18-07, the waitress told us the "Market Price" for a ribeye was $28.00. Be sure and ask the price before ordering or you be the victim of a tourist trap scam and will receive a $10.00 lesson on price gouging. We got up and walked out.    [18 Sep 2007 23:38:58]
