The Best Fried Pies in Texas - therefore the World Do yourself a favor and and exit California Street the next time you pass through Gainesville, Texas. You will come back for more. Excellent fried pies, hot out of the fryer if you time your visit properly. Phone ahead because it's sort of a first come, first serve affair - once they run out for the day they run out for the day. Take home a dozen or two and amaze your friends and family. [28 Dec 2004 10:07:57]

The cherry and apricot ain't chopped liver We drive 70 miles from Fort Worth just to get a dozen pies. No one, nowhere, can compare. As for ambiance, who gives a hoot. The proof's in the pudding, or in this case, the pie. Why these people don't open locations in Fort Worth and Dallas is beyond me. Truly, this is Texas' best kept secret. What the heck is ambiance, anyway? [21 Aug 2006 12:38:32]

I likes my pies fried Oh my! I love fried pie! I just wish they used bacon grease! I drive from Houston on occasion to get these and I usually can't help but have the whole 2 dozen gone by the time I get home. One time my wife made me turn right back around and go back for more. Had to stay overnight in a hotel to get them fresh the next day. You know they're fresh when you bite into it and it leaves a blister on the roof of your mouth and grease runnin' down your chin! Great salad bar also Aside from the obvious choice of fried pie, the lunch salad bar is allways great. Around $4.00 gets you a great soup that topples La Madeline's and changes daily, fresh corn bread, salad, potato salads, coleslaw, fruit salad, vegies, all the trimmings, and a awsome desert that ranges from pudding to short cakes.
On a side note, this is kind of a local only joint, so if you are a new comer expect to get some stares. [01 Mar 2007 11:40:48]
