The Definition of Mediocrity Gaido's is a Galveston fixture...no doubt about it. My wife, who was born and raised in Houston, likes this place, but, through 20+ years of eating here everytime we get to the island, I have not once been impressed with the food. I've had better seafood in Midland and Dallas, Texas (several hundred miles inland)than in Gaido's. Try some of the funky new places on the island that depend on the quality of their food to keep their doors open rather than depending upon their name. [30 Aug 2001 19:07:56]

Gaido's is a tradition in excellence I have yet to visit this restaurant and not have an outstanding meal. 50 years after my first meal here, I am still coming back for more. [04 Oct 2003 05:26:45]

SUPREME EXCELLENCE Gaido's has been the supreme since it opened almost 100 years ago. Those who compare their food to Golden Corral, Red Lobster, or Long John Silver's should not be trusted. Gaido's is far above the rest of the competition. They offer SO MUCH better quality food than Landry's, Joe's Crab Shack, or ANY of the Fertitta restaurants (Willie G's, Fisherman's Wharf....did I miss a couple of them?) The managers are always friendly, and the owners (still the Gaido family unlike Landry's) are day-to-day workers at the restaurant THEMSELVES. They still ensure day after day that the quality of their food doesn't go down the toilet like all the other seafood restaurants in town have done. [02 Apr 2004 16:51:24]

A Historical Spot The food is good, no doubt about it. However, it is not what it used to be. At one time it was the symbol of the south for elegance and fine dining. Now it is just a nice restaurant. It's decline has only gone so far, though. I have never been disappointed at Gaido's. [24 May 2004 15:31:46]
