AWESOME!!!! The City Meat Market is awesome. It is about the food. In the front of the "house", it is a meat market, in the back is where all the love is. A quick trip through a cafeteria style line gets you your food. What I loved about this place is there is no set plates....You tell them what kind of meat you want and then you are asked is this enough, you want more, or less....And you can mix and match your plate. I got steak, ribs and sausage(best I ever had). After you get all your meat, it is weighed (all together), you pay and eat. The food is incredible....And there is only one drink that would be right for this meal... Sweet Tea. One thing that I noticed, not much conversation at the tables, but there is a lot of eating. Be sure to get there early....I was there at 1pm and the brisket was gone... So for some real Texas bbq done with pride, stop by the City Meat Market. [09 Aug 2005 15:45:25]

Grew up with City Meat Market BBQ I am so glad someone recognized City Meat Market in Giddings, TX. It is the Barbeque that I grew up eating on the weekends when I would visit my grandmother. There is none better! And I've eaten at a lot of BBQ in my day.
Living in Austin, it is said that Rudy's sauce is boss, but gosh darn it I don't think enough people have had City's sauce. I love the tangy taste and have never been able to adjust my palate for other sauces.
And yeah, get there darn early, because the locals love it too. We were in town last Saturday at 9:30 am and the BBQ was already for the day. [25 May 2006 14:33:39]

I Was A Mad Dog In A Meat Market! Yes, sad but true. I just LOVE small places like this! For anyone traveling from Austin to Houston, taking route 290 is well worth it. Especially if you want to stop for lunch along the way at an absolutely wonderful small meat market for some barbeque! For most of my trips to Houston, I've found that stopping at the BBQ shops in Elgin is too early in the day, with the day's BBQ not ready. But by the time I'm driving through Giddings, the time is right! Arriving at 10:00 or 10:30 is good timing (best selection of freshly-cooked items), with a little earlier or later being OK as well. There is a small area available for dining-in, which makes for a unique dining ambiance not found many places these days. City Meat Market is easy to find, being located on the northwest corner of the intersection of 290 & 77 (the first traffic light when entering Giddings). Turn left at the light, then take a quick left into the parking area. Yummy! [21 Jun 2006 08:37:21]

Worth The Trip I've been stopping in here for the past 2 years now, and I still enjoy the small town charm and friendliness. And yes, the food is GOOD! The sausage is made of beef, so be ready for a unique taste and consistency which is hard to find elsewhere. I like that they now have a website: http://citymeatmarket.biz/ . Not much on the site, but it provides an idea of what I've mentioned above. [22 Jul 2006 19:12:26]

Made a city guy weep with tears of sauce I am from up North and we also serve great bar-b-que or grilled foods a little differently. I went to City market with my buddy who is from Giddings and was thrilled, the food was incredible, the service was truly original (in a good way) and the flavor and style was truly outstanding. The food was so good that we went twice in the same day !!! Once in the morning to get enough to eat while watching football and again in the afternoon to just savor and enjoy. I even stopped on my way out of town back to Dallas, just for thirds but they were closed !!! Awesome experience. [20 Nov 2006 22:20:00]
