Where's The Service or Manners!! I visited The Firehouse Cafe during the Monday, March 15th lunch run. I have a place on the lake and live in Fort Worth, so this was my first visit.
A young girl, Waitress 1, came by our table fairly quickly after we sat ourselves, to take our drink order and soon brought our drinks ( canned Dr. Peppers! )and a basket of Cut-N-Block Barbecue rolls.
After a longer break in the service, Waitress 2 approached our table and asked if we would like drinks. We offered that we had our drinks and would like to order. She told us she would be right back. We saw her again in 10 minutes. Our party consisted of two adults and two children. We ordered a lunch special meatloaf, a chili burger w/ mayo- no mustard and two cheeseburgers.
After 25 minutes Waitress 3 delivered the chiliburger by itself and with mustard. I asked her if I could have some mayo. She left and never returned.
At 35 minutes, Waitress 4 brought us the remainder of our order. The two cheeseburgers came with no french fries. When we asked about fries, Waitree 4 told us "you have to order those separate, want some?". After 35 minutes we were not about to wait for anything else. I did, again, ask for mayo for the third time. Waitress 4 looked at our guest check and informed us that we must not have ordered mayo because it was not written on the ticket. She left and never returned with the mayo.
Waitress 5 came by with a tea refill (I assume no refills on the canned Dr. Peppers since no one ever offered!)and asked us if the food tasted alright. When I explained that it had taken 35 minutes to get our food, I still had no mayo and no one had bothered to tell us that the cheeseburgers would not come with fries, Waitress 5 picked up our check and said that it had taken 35 minutes because we hadn't ordered a "special". She never offered an explanation about the other problems we had experienced.
I still have no mayo and every time we questioned anything from getting our order right to the length of time to get the order wrong, we were told by more than one of the 5 waitresses what WE had done wrong!!
When I paid our check, the meal- again- a meatloaf special, a chiliburger, two cheeseburgers and 4 drinks was $28.00!!
A man who I assume was the owner who never bothered to introduce himself, came out and asked what our trouble had been. When all was explained to him, he informed us that he has been in business a long time and would do just fine without us!
Not once did we ever hear an apology or even a share of the blame for not getting the order right or for taking so long to get our table fed, but only heard what WE had done incorrectly. The person at the register who either was the owner or represented the owner made it very clear not only did he not care, he doesn't care if anyone returns for a second try, unless they order a "special", of course.
Please tell them that the food on the "special" menu on the wall is misspelled. Spinach is not spelled "spinich! [16 Mar 2004 19:38:12]

Must Visit This is a great cafe. The staff is friendly and the food is good. They are not the quickest but everything is well worth the wait.
In fact, after searching all over for a suitable breakfast location, my wife and I have become breakfast regulars. [24 Dec 2008 08:32:45]
