We at there for the first time last week. The spanish rice is better than anywhere else I have tried. Service was great. I highly recommend. They are undergoing renovations so the ambiance isn't perfect. Kind of smelled like paint and paint thinner. That would be the only flaw in our dining experience.    [14 Aug 2003 19:18:28]

Me and my husband went there one sun. morning and the service was awful. They were packed, I guess because it was a Sunday. We had a very young waiter that couldn't wait for us to leave and my husband ordered the chili, and it looked and tasted like canned chili from the supermarket. Outstanding dining
This has been one of my favorites since it was "Rudy & Irene's" place, back in the 1960s. It has been owned by Charlie Garcia for many years and it has remained tops to a large loyal following. The current renovation is almost complete, contractor problems seemed to drag on forever and Charlie just got more and more bald from all the hair-pulling. My favorite dishes are anything that has his rice and his refried beans... They are delicious, greasy, and ...just great! His chili is really very good.    [13 Dec 2003 00:05:44]

One of my favorites!

Best Mexican Food Restaurant Anywhere!
El Chaparral is by far the best Mexican Food I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. It's always the same. The new location is beautiful!
