59 Diner gone downhill The meal I had at the 59 Diner on I-10 was one of the worst I've ever had. The turkey was stringy and pan-fried like a hamburger and the mashed potatoes were hard and old. Also the dressing was way over-seasoned. Won't ever go there again. [07 Oct 2002 17:44:44]

Yummy Chicken fried steak and vanilla shakes are to die for. Chili cheese dogs ok. Mashed potatoes no longer so good. Overall, love it. [28 Jan 2003 18:25:17]

Turn back the clock Great food in a retro environment. With a design like the diners of old, it gives you the feel of going back in time. Great food and great service. [26 Jun 2003 11:05:36]

Great Joint I have had breakfast every Sunday at 59 Diner for years. If you want to get away from the mass produced (IHOP) themes, 59 Diner is the place. Very friendly wait-staff, lots of coffee, smoking area in the back. And they let me read the paper or hang out with the boys, without me feeling rushed out. [02 Apr 2004 17:40:26]

Not to be missed Fast and friendly service, great food (not one loser on the menu), resonable prices, what's not to like? Come hungry. [19 Oct 2005 12:31:30]

Going Downhill for Months I've known the 59 Diner all the way back to Phil's. When it changed management (and decor) the food began to go downhill fast. Favorites like meatloaf are unreliably seasoned, I had spinach yesterday that was so salty that all I could taste was salt, the soda jerk (or stand-in) doesn't know how to make freezes, peach cobbler is all glop and no peaches -- where to stop? The only thing I've eaten that still passes muster is the chicken fried steak. I pass it every day, love diner comfort food, but have decided to find a new place. (PS: the wait staff are still among the best, but even that's changing.) [08 Feb 2008 11:14:59]
