An easy-to-miss Jewel in the desert In the semi-ghost town of Imperial, Texas is found one of the most unexpected surprises the traveler can hope to experience. The Permian Sea Restaurant is owned and operated by the Bart Reed family, the same people who own The Permian Sea Shrimp Farm just east of town.
The Permian Basin was once a great sea, the remainder of which is the pure salt water acquifer near Imperial, Texas. Pacific White Shrimp thrive in ponds filled with this pure salt water. The shrimp are fed pure, organtic feed especially formulated to produce the healthiest and finest tasting shrimp possible.
Since they produce the finest quality shrimp to be found on the face of the earth, it is no surprise that their restaurant serves the finest tasting shrimp to be found anywhere.
Whether boiled or sauteed in garlic butter (or on Fridays only -- fried) Patsy Reed, the lovely and gracious wife of owner, Bart, serves from their unpretentous small cafe the freshest, best tasting shrimp anyone could imagine.
The menu is small but those in your party who can not eat shellfish will be accomodated with several delicious options. Be sure to save room for desert, always fresh and always home-made.
Anyone living in the Permian Basin or any traveler passing nearby would find it well worth the small detour to Imperial, Texas. No further directions are needed. If you can find Imperial, you have found the Permian Sea Restaurant. [23 Oct 2003 15:13:18]

What a great find! I was traveling through the area enjoying some backroads Texas travel and stumbled across this awesome little shrimpfest. They raise the shrimp in the middle of the desert and then serve them at the restaurant a few miles down the road. Great eats and a real legendary Texas feel. [30 Oct 2003 22:35:22]

Don't Waste Your Time We stopped by this place based on the above recommendations. . .first the smell of old grease hits you, then you notice the dirty floors, followed by the filthy tables. We turned around and walked out. [04 Apr 2007 19:52:14]

The Best This is indeed a jewel. It has the best shrimp anywhere, anytime. If you care about what you eat, its purity and freshness, this is a must-stop place. It is great! The guy who left before eating missed out big.
One must also take into account that you are not in SF or NYC. If you want fancy, don't come to West Texas. [16 Apr 2007 13:06:28]
