Wonderful food Being a resident of Houston, we have the privilege to go to Kemah often. We always eat at the Flying Dutchman. I really enjoy sitting outside watching the boats and enjoy the music. The park is wonderful for the children also. I would STRONGLY suggest eating here and kick back and relax while sipping on a Hurricane. The best ever! [09 Mar 2003 16:40:16]

good experience Visited this restaurant Sunday, 03/09/03. Granddaughter let her balloon go to ceiling. Waitress retrieved it by standing on bar stool and grasping string with her folding serving table. Good service, good food. Wait was 45 mins.for outside table, 25 for inside. Waitress checked on us frequently and refreshed our drinks as needed. Would like to see menu updated. Did not see any different items on menu than when I ate here several years ago. Best Food on the Boardwalk Have eaten there since I was a kid, since 1982. It has changed alot...for the best mostly, but I always go back. I always see the same faces and they recognize me to. I've read some bad reviews, but those reviews probably came from people who compare McDonald's to every place they eat. [17 Mar 2003 02:18:24]

What a disappointment! I took my family and friend to be treated at the best seafood place around. Wrong. We first dealt with ants. We then had cats who wandered around amid the tables. The once terrific shrimp plate appetizer was mediocre, spicy..with 3 plates, not 4 four our group. I found the food ok--not amazing, and for the price it was outrageous. We will not eat there again. How could they have fallen so far down?? I never asked price before..today I regretted every penny [02 Aug 2003 16:26:43]

Clarification on The Flying Dutchman Restaurant I have read these comments regarding the quality, service, and appeal of The Flying Dutchman. I have been going to The Dutchman for the past 15 years and have never been disappointed. It seems some of these negative comments are coming out of the downstairs oyster bar. Let's make sure people know what they are talking about. The oyster bar has it's good and bad days, no doubt. I can confirm that. The comments I have read seem to be right on with the experiences I have had down there. It's just hard to go to any oyster bar and expect to find gold. They are all the same. The Flying Dutchman is the Restaurant upstairs. There is a reason why The Dutchman maintained it's foudation during the cultivation of the Kemah Boardwalk. Don't go in off the streets with your cut offs and sandles. That is not what The Flying Dutchman is about. So, if one day you find yourself heading to The Flying Dutchman with your beach cloths on, you are probably heading straight to the oyster bar. It is a whole different world upstairs. This restaurant has paved the way for what the boardwalk is today. [27 Aug 2003 17:56:57]

Great Experience - Eat upstairs in the Restaurant The upstairs restaurant has been a standard of fine dining in the Clear Lake Area for 20+years. The service is as good as the food. I make a special trip once a summer from Dallas to enjoy the fare. You cannot get seafood like that in Dallas. Blackened Tuna with etouffee is awsome. [21 Nov 2003 16:18:17]

Beautiful 1st Anniversary Experience If you go to the restaurant upstairs, I'm sure that you'll find exquisite service and fantastic food! The crab fingers were to die for, and the grilled red snapper spinach florentine with a hint of bacon flavor was enticing! Their scallops, dipped in a garlic butter sauce was like a burst of delight in my mouth! Then the waiter pormpted me with an excellent glass of Pinot Grigio and the Belgian Pate excelled all expectations of a classic European dessert! Thank You! [07 Jun 2004 22:20:59]

Tasted great going down, not so good coming up I went to the restaurant upstairs for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I ordered the stuffed shrimp. They tasted great going down. However all through the night they were coming back up. I spent most of night with my face in the toilet. [04 Dec 2005 16:11:48]
