Decent Country Cooking, Friendly Service It's a Cracker Barrel, and therefore comfortably predictable. For travelers or locals seeking simple, honest American fare, that's a good thing.
Kerrville's Cracker Barrel has essentially the same menu as any other Cracker Barrel: country cooking, hearty entrees, generous portions. The Meat Loaf was truly just like Mom used to make (and Mom made really good Meat Loaf): moist, tender, conservatively spiced. The baked sweet potato (available just one night a week), truly a gift from Heaven.
Cracker Barrels' attached gift shops feature items in every price bracket, including some that look way more expensive than their price. Highlight: hard-to-find, traditional candies you haven't seen since Hector Was A Pup. I bought a bag of Walnettos and slipped into a reverie of of black-and-white TV, cars with white sidewall tires and lots of chrome, and those funny refrigerators with the circular compressors on top.
Staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. [14 Jul 2002 13:29:09]
