superb food/coffee I recently visited this small town coffee bar with my fiance and we loved it. the cakes, muffins and cookies, all made from scratch by the owner, were unbeleivable!!! the service is excellent as well, very upbeat, polite, and prompt. must visit if passing through. a wanna be type coffee shop I have had coffee at this location as well as lunch. The coffee is not strong enough to be called coffee. It seems to be watered down. The service is not always polite and seems to be inconsistent. The food is below average to say the least. The atmosphere is dark and cluttered. The only thing it really has going for it is that it is one of several coffee shops and the other one (chestnut corners) is just horrible. There really is no competition. [19 Jul 2005 20:07:39]

Monty's Coffee Bar can't be beat!! I love driving my sports car to Lampasas from Georgetown to give my car some miles. I always make it a point to stop in to PERKS Coffee Shop. Monty is ALWAYS courteous, kind and goes out of his way to see to it that he has a variety of muffins, cakes and more. I think his coffe is tops. His decorating skills are A++ and are on a pastry chefs level. His gum paste flowers look so real that I had to look closer to make sure and found out they where gum paste. The cakes he decorates compete well with Austin pastry chefs. So I invite anyone driving in that area to make a stop and say hi to Monty and get in on some of his goodies, but come early they don't last long!! [15 Feb 2007 11:32:35]

Glad I decided to check out downtown Lampasas Hot Coffee and fresh brewed tea are just the start at this welcome oasis in a small Texas town. Although not the strong and bitter and high priced coffee sold at metro franchises, Perks brews four coffees daily for you to choose from and Monty (the owner)can draw a mighty tasty espresso! Always fresh and baked on the premises, a good variety of muffins, cakes and sweets are on display everyday in old fashioned domed cake plates and clear cases, reminiscent of the age and ambiance of the 1890s building. It is comfortable and laid back, although the lighting could be better for reading. I was encouraged to sit and relax and read the newspaper and sip your drink. Wish I had more time to do so. I liked how I was treated, service was slower than in Austin, but as I stood there at the bar I saw my drink being made with fresh milk, freshly ground espresso beans, and when I tasted my cappuccino, it was well worth the wait. Thanks Perks! I'll tell all my friends as I belong to a car club and we love finding treasures that are off the beaten track. [18 Apr 2007 14:27:19]
