Stuffed Chicken My husband and I ate at the Abuello's in Lewisville last week. We have been there before and the food was excellent. Last week it WAS NOT! I ordered the stuffed chicken and grilled vegetables and got a plate of grilled onions. The chicken was dried out and my husband lunch was terrible. We had a $20.00 gift certificate that we spent for lunch and we were very disappointed. [01 Jan 2003 22:26:58]

Great Find! I think this is one of the best restaurants in the Dallas / Denton area!! I can't believe it's not packed every day!! The atmosphere can not be rivaled, and the food is the best Mexican I have ever had (papas con chile are unbelievable). The service is friendly every time I go. Definitely give this place a shot - you won't be disappointed. Nice enough for an occasion, cheap enough to go whenever you want. [04 Jul 2003 19:31:08]

Mergaritas are Good, Food is Hideous My business associate and I called on a prospective client in Lewisville. The client suggested Abuelos. We were escorted to a table near the back and noticed immediately that the lighting was of such intensity that we would be getting a sunburn unless protected by SPF 1000. At out request we were relocated to a table where sunglasses were not necessary.
We ordered a pitcher of traditional margaritas. The libations were the high point of out experience. The margaritas were tart and flavorful. Unfortunately, this was the zenith of out experience which quickly degenerated to below the level of a third world repas.
I order the house special shrimp. What I received was shocking. The shrimp had been wrapped in bacon and incinerated beyond recognition. The low grade bacon was extremely salty and the shrimp had been overcooked beyond salvaging.
The side order of rice was bland as were the beans.
I choked down a few bites in politie deference to our clients and ordered a cup of coffee.
The coffee was cold and well below the quality of the nearby 7-11.
All in all, despite the pleasant decor, this establishment qualifies as the second worst Mexican restaurant on the face of the planet. [08 Sep 2003 01:09:02]

Fabulous Place. Me and my wife have been here several times, and it's always been absolutely fantastic! Our favorite mexican restraunt. Their prices have recently increased a bit dramatically though. [11 Mar 2004 09:54:04]

Lots of Food For Little $$$ My husband and I usually go and split the combo plate. The salsa is one of the best in the metroplex. It is full of ripe fresh tomatoes and lots of cilantro. It is just the right hot. The combo plate is full of everything mexican that you could want. The sour cream enchiladas are perfect. The cheese enchiladas are just the right cheese and onion mixture. The chili relliano is very unique and tasty. They take a whole pablano pepper stuff it with cheese and hamburger and then batter the whole thing in an egg batter and deep fry it. My husband and I usually have a polite little fight over who gets it. This is not the best place to go if you are on the zone diet or looking for "american" or "tex-mex". I wear a size six and usually have to go run a little further the day after we go to Abuelos. To me it is worth it. It is the ultimate in comfort food. We usually go there after a stressful week. I guess for those who try to go to a place like this and get gourmet or diet food it isn't the place, but we prefer it 100 to 1!!!! The service has always been good. The servers are attentive but not obnoxious. The ambiance is beautiful. It takes you to another world. The cieling is painted like a beautiful faux sky. There is a nice fountain which suppresses some of the noise. We usually go on a Friday or Saturday and never feel overwhelmed by the noise. [18 Feb 2005 18:49:55]
