Description
Barbecue smoked on huge outdoor pits. Walk up and pick your favorite cuts of sausage, chicken, ribs, sirloin steak, cabrito, ribs or brisket. Pay by the pound when you walk into the dining room. Sides are potato salad, cole slaw, dill pickles, and cobblers. "Serve yourself" soft drinks, ice tea, pinto beans, sliced onions and extra sauce are at each end of the dining room. Dining room has huge picnic tables with rolls of paper towels for napkins and sliced white bread in the plastic bags (for sopping up the pinto bean gravy, of course).
Don't be surprised if you see a celebrity sneak in - this place draws people from all over.

Cooper's Barbecue - Llano, TX I have eaten in BBQ restaurants all over the Southern and Western US and Cooper's is absolutely my favorite. [04 Dec 1999 17:52:33]

Best real oak smoked barbecue going. Don't forget the gallon jars of pickled jalapeno peppers on the table. I can't believe your description of the menu failed to include the monster pork chop. It is Cooper's main claim to fame. The monster pork chop is a fabulous 1.5" thick, 1+ pound, smoked delight. Never found anything like it anywhere else. I'll drive over a hundred miles to eat at Cooper's before I'll drive 10 miles for San Antonio barbecue. [14 Jan 2001 18:32:11]

Fantastic Barbecue Pick your meat while on the smoker, go inside and have it weighed and sliced or chopped, choose excellent potato salad and OK slaw (very sweet recipe), get your sheets of white butcher paper to eat shared meats off of and sit down. Then get your heavenly beans and indescribable sauce. Now you can sit down and enjoy. Incredible brisket, pork chop to die for, ribs falling off the bone, delicious cabrito and some of the best chicken I have ever had in my life. Sirloin was tough and almost inedible the day we visited. Service was excellent and ambiance was, well, a Texas roadhouse barbecue joint--exactly the homey feel that you would think of for excellent food, while maintaining a restaurant. It is perfect for the food. An absolutely incredible experience. And they even give you free industrial weight foil to wrap up what you haven't eaten to take home with you (and that includes more beans and barbecue sauce!). If you live anywhere in Texas--it is well worth the drive. If you live elsewhere the items will soon be available on-line for ordering. I still rate it incredible even with the problem with the sirloin! [21 Jul 2001 01:27:54]

Not so good service My friends and I were on our Goldwings and went to Cooper's BBQ. We made two mistakes:
1. We came by too early before we realized they were open and we DID NOT get a warm reception.
2. We walked in the wrong door.
Instead of a "Sorry we are closed and open at..." We got a "Can't you read the signs! You're at the wrong door" and "We ain't open".
We decided to head on down the road and went to a Mom and Pop restaurant about 1 mile away. That was my first and only experience at Coopers. [07 Mar 2003 11:03:23]

SFA Geology My school always stops here at Coopers to eat what I think is the best BBQ around. True, you will spend more than normal, but it is worth it. The atmosphere is as Texan as the BBQ. May not be the best service but is Coopers the best BBQ. [02 Apr 2003 13:43:56]

One of the best in Texas I go whenever I can. I live in Marble Falls only like a 30 or 40 minute drive if that. But with so many bbq joints in the area I only go if I'm in the area. The lines can get long because so many people love this place, which on a winter day can be kinda detering. But a wait is worth it. Good sauce and the famous "paper plates" make a must if your in Llano [15 Dec 2004 12:44:45]

not necessarily great... This joint has all the hype but the prices are high and the food isn't any better than the other BBQ places in town. [18 Apr 2007 21:53:41]
