Inconsiderate Service
I must admit that when we go to Lockhart (which is at least once every 3 weeks), we go to this restaurant. Or should I say used to. They do have wonderful food, & their carne guisada is some of the best, however, on Saturday, January 8th, 2005 we pulled into their drive thru @ almost 9:30. The open sign was still on (as were all of their other lights) & we drove up to the window. There was a girl at the window who looked directly at us & then proceeded to walk off. She saw us, but there was absolutely no acknowledgement. We waited there for about 3 minutes wondering what had happened & thinking she would come back. She did not. We pulled up to the door & noticed that they close @ 9:30 pm. Now it is fine if they were closing, however she should have had the courtesy to inform us they they were closing. We left infuriated & although we've been back to Lockhart one time since (& will continually go back to that wonderful town), we are never going back to this Mr. Taco. If you really want some of their food, just drive down a little way to Luling. We've never had bad service or food there.    [25 Jan 2005 17:30:25]

First of all I would like to say, I don't mind if someone bashes the restaurant. Yes, sometimes the service isn't the best, but in most cases some of it is to blame on customers. I have a few things to say about this. First of all we close at 9:00. Second of all, or course all the lights were on. I mean, who cleans in the dark? Third of all, Mr. Taco in Luling also closes at 9:00. Fourth of all, we didn't post an open-close sign on the door until February of 2006 when the new construction on the building began. I'm sorry if you felt like you weren't properly taken care of, but when you decide you want to try to judge a restaurant, please be sure that you know what you are talking about!    [04 Apr 2006 10:18:32]

Not too bad...
Their food is okay.. a little expensive for enchiladas or tacos. I think their enchiladas need quite a bit of work. Overall it's not a bad restaurant, worth a try.    [01 May 2006 05:30:46]

bad service can I say it any clearer
Hi.Their food is great.Their service is terrible.Well my grandmother and I went in to dine, cause we had been out in the hot Texas heat for like an 1hr or so. We ordered our drinks, they didn't arrive till 20mins.When we asked for refills they never came. Later, when the food came we barely got our drinks.
I'm only 13yrs old and am extremly mad at the waitress and service. My grandma is a diabetic and was very thirsty, now you know why I was mad. I could have understood if they were busy but they weren't. The next time this happens I'm going to say something. I'm going to give them options I can either get the service I'm paying for(well my grandma was paying),talk to the manager,or call my family's lawyer.

Mr. Taco rocks
I have to get my "Mr. Taco Fix" at least once a week.. absolutely love their prices and their crunchy tacos and enchiladas are a must try. On Wednesdays try their chicken fried steak special or chicken fried steak ranchero.. very cheap and very good. Their burgers are wonderful too. The wait staff are very attentive. We barely sit down and hot chips and fresh salsa are on the table with menus in front of us and our drink order being taken. I'll admit I have my favorite waitresses some are always better than others. Give this place a shot guarantee you'll be back.    [11 Oct 2006 03:08:27]

Stupidity and customer complaints
First of all, yes, the restaurant may have its problems. However, if you feel the need to complain about it, at least do so in a productive manner.

One statement above about the restaurant closing at 9:30 is completely false. Mr. Taco has always closed at 9 pm except on Sundays when it used to close at 2 pm. Not only did they person complaining state a wrong time, they also stated that they walked up to the door which said Mr. Taco closed at 9:30. First of all, what kind of restaurant closes on a half-hour? Second of all "Marty" says they went to the door and "noticed" it closed at 9:30. I don't know where they noticed it because Mr. Taco never posted their hours until later in 2006, not January of 2005, when more doors were added onto the expanded building. Also, "Marty" states that he/she has never received service like this before, but that they will not be going back. I would like to invite "Marty" into the building at 9 when it is dark outside. Then "Marty" can look out of the drive-thru window (which is tinted) and let everyone know if he/she can see outside every time a car pulls up after closing.

Let’s also look at who is complaining. In one complaint a thirteen year old girl, who obviously has trouble writing properly, complains about the service. She says that they ordered drinks and that it took 20 minutes for them to arrive. She also says that this was at a time when the restaurant was not busy. First of all, there are always at least 3 servers on staff. Therefore, it should not have taken any more than 2 minutes for the little girl and her grandma to get their drinks. Second of all, from my experience in the food industry, I have come to the conclusion that customers have absolutely no general awareness of time. Many times a customer will stand to complain about the food taking more than an hour. Stop right there. Mr. Taco has computers. The orders are put in and printed with the time the order was placed. Customers often become angered when they are informed that their hour has only been a mere 20 minutes. Thirdly, if the grandmother was a diabetic, it is something that she could have stated clearly to the waitress as many of the diabetic customers who dine there do. Another thing we must look at is the “anger” or this child. “I was mad because my grandma was thirsty” “I was mad at the waitress and the service” “Dishes to try: been and cheese” Lets stop and look at this. It is possible to be mad at a waitress for bad service, however the child states that she is mad at the service. It is not possible to be mad at service for the service is merely a noun given as a name for what the waitress does. Been and cheese? BEEN AND CHEESE? Last time I looked, it was BEAN. B.E.A.N. This child seems to have a lot of ranting to do, but has she even passed first grade? Composure and presentation sets your argument. Try to make sure what you are writing is correct. If this child cannot follow simple rules of the English language, how can we accept her argument as plausible. Oh, yes, Mr. Taco does not serve a dish called bean and cheese. Bean and cheese is a kind of taco served.

People all I ask is that before you decide to complain and debase the name of Mr. Taco, try to present your argument in a correct matter. Please make sure that your “facts” are indeed facts and not fabrications set forth to undermine the ability of the servers to perform the duties in which they were assigned.    [24 Oct 2006 06:17:45]

Annoyed Former Customer Server with a firm knowledge of the guidelines of Mr. Taco

From great to mediocre
We have been faithful customers of Mr. Taco in Lockhart for the past ten years or so. In my opinion it has gone from a fine great restaurant that had the best food and service any where to mediocre. Why? We used to get the best breakfast tacos in central Texas there, but of late there has been little attention to the details such as serving what the customer ordered. This has happened both in the drive-through and inside the restaurant, but especially at the drive-through. Lately,we have repeatedly had to return breakfast tacos to have them replaced or redone because the order was wrong or the food served cold. This used to never happen in the past. Maybe Mr. Taco is just getting too big for itself?    [19 Dec 2006 12:12:48]

Great food agree with spotty service
We love to go to Mr. Taco, almost once a week. We have come to accept that the service will be unpredictable, and the people sometimes rude. There are certain regular waitresses that are absolute gems and sweethearts, and good servers. The food and prices are, so far, worth it. Mr. Taco is lucky they have better food than the place in the hotel down the street, or we would have switched over long ago. We were also told that the place in Luling is NOT the same Mr. Taco as in Lockhart, by the folks in Luling! So that's a mystery. Once a manager-type (in Lockhart) even fought with us over two tortillas. A wopping 10 cents or less worth of food, and they treated us like we were trying to rip them off for pointing out we didn't get two of them that we thought should have come with our order. But that seems to be their way I noticed the huffy (and downright petty) replies to other critiques. If only they said "point taken, we'll work on it" like a good business person should, even if they don't agree, instead of wailingly defending themselves and attacking the spelling of an angry (and well-meaning) 13 year old. You don't have to spell well to know when you've been shafted. This defensiveness seems to be one of the problems of their recent slide into mediocrity. The expansion is something they and their service will have to grow into. (does anyone else think that new wing made it really LOUD in there? a few more rugs on the wall might help? anyone?) In general, the serving of the food requires little and seems fine. But the problems come over the more delicate courtesies, like problems with your meal, special requests, following up on a lost and found item, and apparently from the other critiques, from the way the evening closing is handled. If only they could be humble and kind, honest and forthright, people might recognize their service as much as they love their food, which is always delicious (although the amount of guac you get with an order depends on something like the phase of the moon or the direction of the wind... you never know if you're going to get a smear or a glob.) The potatoes aren't greasy and the meats are always cooked just perfectly. Those contentious tortillas are worth fighting over - they are delicious.
Honesty, humility, and a desire to serve better would explode this place over the top. I will commend them for the one time I left my purse at the table and a waitress chased me down in the parking lot to return it.
I have tried to spell everything correctly here so that if someone from Mr. Taco is reading this, they can focus on the message and not attack me personally. We love your food, but not your attitude.    [27 Dec 2006 11:12:54]

More inconsiderate service
I was a loyal Mr. Taco patron until 3 weeks ago when I left my sunglasses on the table one evening when I left. Of course this was my fault but I do not appreciate the lack of customer service when I came in the next day to see if anyone had found them. The waiter and several others remembered the glasses being placed on a shelf in the "to go" area but they had disappeared. I asked them to please check w/the staff to see if anyone would be willing to return them. I called 2 more times and spoke to the manager, leaving my name and number each time. Each time they promised to talk to the staff and I even offered a reward as they were brand new and cost me over $150.00. Not once did I receive a call back. If they are not concerned that their wait staff are not honest, I will not go back and will tell everyone I know the same. Too bad because I did enjoy the food and went frequently, never again.    [15 Oct 2007 16:27:17]
