Best Tortilla Soup I ever had
I would love to have the recipe for tortilla soup.

El Chico
We moved to Texas last summer from California. We are familiar with excellent Mexican food.

Here in Texas they have what is called Tex-Mex, and it is gross. Most of the food is swimming in yellow cheese sauce...a-la Velveeta...yuck! I am used to eating enchiladas and tacos that are filled with real shredded cheddar or Jack cheese. That is how I ate them in California, and that is how I make them here at home.

Anyway we go into El Chico's last night and I asked the waitress if there was anything on the menu that had real cheese and not that make-believe Tex-Mex yellow glue. She replied by saying the tacos had shredded cheese on them. Ok, I said. I will order those.

The plate arrived with two tacos, rice and refried beans. Looked at the tacos...I said to my husband, these tacos looked as if they came out of a box. Took a bite...I wanted to spew! The ground beef had what I considered to be an old taste and the corn shells had a bad flavor. I went on to the beans and rice; ate only half of those. The meal was absolutely terrible.

And so what did the waitress ask me as she took my plate away? She said..."Did you have enough sweetie?" I said yeah, I had enough allright.

After telling my Texan friends what had happened, they all told me that El Chico had terrible food...don't go there again!!! I won't! El Chico in Marshall...throw in the towel!    [27 Jan 2004 23:34:05]

the place needs help!
Ground hamburger meat used for the tacos,burritos,etc..tastes HORRIBLE!!!!!Like someone else said it has a wierd(BAD) taste! Rude servers but I do like the soup and the whits queso/chips!    [03 Dec 2006 16:14:34]
