Fort Mason Smokehouse in Mason Well, The jury is still out on this one.
Fort Mason Smokehouse is located in the "old" Super S building practically next door to the new Super S building.
This place offers a variety of plate lunches for $4.95 and lots of baked goods as well.
But I have to be honest; at this point the only product I have purchased from them was a dozen "hot" beef tamales. I'm sorry, I know prepackaged factory produced food when I see it, let alone taste it. The tamales in question had the smell and flavor of the plastic lined box they came in.
The couple that run the place (name withheld out of courtesy) are quite nice. But they obviously have no idea what a Texas tamale is supposed to be like.
Like I said, that should not discount the rest of the stuff they serve because that is the only thing I ever bought from them. I would gather that their main business will be derived by processing game during the hunting seasons.
They are a nice couple, but I expect this business will not last through the next spring. I mean, geez! If you can't get a simple tamale right and have to provide these sterile, flavorless, frozen and reheated, things from a box - do you really think customers are going to come back to you?
