And it really has a soda fountain You don't come here looking for polished silverware and sturdy tables. This place shares space with the consignment shop next to it, so there is not much room. Think back to the questionable places you dined at when you were in college and you get the idea. You walk up to give your order and then find yourself a seat. No one greets you at the door and they shout your name when your meal is done. It is truely a self serve facility. [30 Mar 2004 16:46:48]

Herby's is *supposed* to be like that Herby's isn't nearly as gritty as the other review may leave you to think. It's decorated like the '50s, with road signs to far-flug Texas towns, a real soda fountain, every milkshake flavor imaginable, a jukebox filled with '50s classics, a few retro counter stools and a couple of matching booths. There's plenty of seating in the back, and Herby's makes killer tater tots, chili dogs, burgers, sandwiches and more. I've always found the (mostly high school-aged) help friendly, too. But seriously, this place is worth the stop. [21 Mar 2006 17:18:53]

YUCK!! Not that we were expecting much but at the very least diner quality.
1st of all I was disappointed by the prices, fairly expensive for the State Fair type of food that was being offered and the self-serve atmosphere.
The food came to our table and looked as though it had been left over from the day before. The french fries were the only redeeming quality...but how do you mess up fried potatoes?
My children, who were starving, didn't even finish their meals and complained of stomach aches about an hour later. This place should stick to ice cream.
For the price, we could have dined at 3 other restaurants on the Square, with much better food.
Very disappointing!! [27 Jun 2006 10:19:51]

Nostalgic, but not much else We go to Herby's for nostalgic reasons - it's the only place we know of where we can get an egg cream soda or other fountain drinks.
The ice creams and sodas are okay, if you can stand the service (or lack thereof), and the rest of the menu is "trashy diner" selection/quality. Seating is minimal (although they have opened up more seating where you can't hear your name being yelled when your order is ready). The jukebox is really cool. [31 Jul 2006 18:47:37]

Food Fit To Kill .. I mean literally. I came from Plano to McKinney looking forward to an ice cream soda and a hamburger and fries. The ice cream soda should be called and ice cream water as the soda had zero fizz and everything was luke warm. The hamburger was so-so and overpriced. The French Fries were wilting and greasy. Something the French would invent. They were terfible. All in all, a lousy experience. [10 Sep 2006 16:23:16]
