Some Things That are Heard a Lot but that Never Get Changed Cortino's Italian Restaurant is a standing monument that has been in the Rio Grande Valley for many years but in these years it has been very poorly taken care of, the roof is in desperate need of repairs, the carpet smells of mold and mildew from the years of water damage that is due to the shanty nature of the roof, the air conditioning system is nothing more than a temperate air blower and the sign could use some repairs.
The food itself has some spice to it, several dishes on the menu are actually very very good when the cooks actually take time and effort in making them but due to the popularity of this restaurant this is often not the case, and the food has significantly changed over the years. One dish is the spaghetti which used to be an enjoyable meal for me but now is just heart burn waiting to happen.
In my opinion this restaurant could be a really wonderful place again if the owners would just put some money into repairing the roof and the air conditioning system and changing the carpet. The waiters and waitresses there are all quite nice and there service is really very good except the one problem I do have is how I feel obligated to listen to Ms. Cortino's poetry when all that I am really there for is to get a good bite to eat and a good glass of wine with my wife. Condition of establishment This is one resturant that we enjoyed eating in until the last year when the owner has neglected to make repairs after water damage to the roof. The mold smell is overwhelming when you now walk in the door. This was one place we always liked to take out of town visitors but not any more! [21 Nov 2003 15:56:19]

Build A New Restaurant! The food there is SO good. Amazing. I love eating at Cortino's but oh my gosh, the building is in some sad shape. The inside is totally dated and falling apart as well. Some co-workers went to eat one day during the rain and there were bowls all over the place, catching the drips. What can I say? [03 Nov 2004 14:03:56]

Now fixed up The owners made extensive repairs inside and the problems above not longer exists. The food is consistently good, but when crowded, can take a little while [22 May 2005 17:38:10]
