Worth the Drive It seems there is a catfish place in every small town in East Texas. Most of the locals, however, find that the 45 minute or so drive to Vaughan's well worth the trip. Hot, well seasoned catfish is of course the draw here, but the fried shrimp is equally tasty. An "all you want option" means no one goes home hungry. The fish is accompanied by the usual hushpuppies, fries, beans and tomato relish (above average). Friendly wait staff made sure everyone was taken care of. [28 Nov 2001 12:32:23]

Great View of Lake/Sunset, Plus Good Food! Got to the restaurant at sundown after a drive of about 25 minutes from I-30. Lots of folks in line, but it moved quickly. Food was great - good broiled catfish as well as fried. But the best part was dining as the sun going down over the lake... [03 Apr 2002 08:21:23]

If You Like a Really Ugly Restaurant Then drive your butt off, to what could potentially be the MOST beautiful place in Texas. But alas, you enter one of the ugliest restaurants in the world, Vaughan's. We were so displeased at the lack of architectural consulting, the sheer ugliness of the place, that when we noticed the place was patronised by mainly REALLY fat families, we were not so surprised.
Can you believe that the place will not serve a glass of wine, unless you choose to pay $6.00 to JOIN the SMOKERS in the "club". As if that wasn't bad enough, the Catfish and Prawns Combo was so dry, tasteless and in short, disgusting, we simply left the food on the plate and drove the 300 miles back home. Now THERE is a restaurant in need of some SERIOUS consultation. But then again, all the really fat families seemed to flock there. [21 Apr 2002 20:50:09]

Best Catfish in Town! I must say, I stumbled on this site while looking for a phone number to call Vaughan's, so I stopped read the reviews, and felt that the restaurant was done a great injustice by some of the other comments, so I would like to offer my review.
I find the previous review to be very misleading, so please don't let it, alone, set your opinion. Vaughan's has some of the best food around. I'm from Dallas and anytime we find ourselves in East Texas, eating at Vaughan's is a must.
The restaurant was not built to look fancy, but was built with a great view of the lake in mind. If you come at sunset, you will be able to see the sunset from any table in the building. As far as the service goes, I don't know if it could get any better, the staff is always enthusiastic, quick, and happy to serve you. [05 Jul 2002 19:07:12]

Too Salty For Us! We've given Vaughan's Catfish On The Lake (between Mt. Vernon and Pittsburg) several tries, but the catfish is so salty it tastes like it has been soaked in a brine before frying! We guess they may have a motive for this: you won't eat as much of the over-priced "all-you-can-eat" platter, or you'll curb your appetite by drinking so much iced tea just trying to satisfy your thirst. There's no excuse for serving fish THAT salty! We're through giving them a chance! [01 Oct 2002 00:16:18]

I have only been once to Vaughan's but can't wait to go back. The fish was seasoned perfect. My son and I loved it. [05 Nov 2002 20:27:14]

Best fish ever in a restaurant! I never ate catfish at any restaurant until I went to Vaughan's Catfish. My family talked me into trying it and every since I have loved it. It is seasoned just right. And I hate pinto beans, but their beans are really tasty. The only problem I have is that it is too expensive, and I can't afford to go more often. But I still can't wait to go back.------Christy, Tyler, TX [22 Apr 2003 15:59:49]

Vaughan's Restaurant in Douglassville is good, too We frequent Vaughan's near Douglassville, TX, and it is always good. The prices are a couple dollars higher than we are happy paying, but it is worth the drive. Their homemade tomato relish can't be beat. [09 Aug 2005 17:27:35]

Good place for eating fish and fixins We had heard about Vaughans and ate there on our visit to East Texas and the food was worth the effort to find the local restaurant. Great fried catfish and oysters. The cole slaw, pinto beans and hush puppies served before the fish were good too. The waitress kept the catfish coming constantly to our table until we had all had our fill. The full view overlooking the lake was enjoyable as well. Lots of families eating there as well. The fish is a little pricey, but understandable for "all you can eat." Will definitely try it again. [21 Jun 2006 15:22:44]
