Been all over Texas many times, and keep coming back to The Grist Mill for a great meal, with patio decks overlooking the Guadalupe River, and some of the best and friendliest servers in Texas. Located next to Gruene Hall.    [18 Mar 2002 00:19:07]

Double Yummmmm
The Gristmill is our favorite restaurant. Located beneath the Grune water tower in an old cotton gin overlooking the Guadalupe River. The atmosphere is nostalgic and relaxed. In the summer you can dine indoors or out, overlooking the river. In winter, inside in front of a roaring fireplace. (real wood fire, not fake).
All the menu items we have tried are delicious, but the ribs are fantastic. Ribs are not listed on the menu, but are available on weekends. ASK YOUR SERVER, you won't be disapointed. (Don't forget to wear your 'fat' pants)    [18 Jan 2003 11:33:55]

Where have I been?
With two girls in college in San Marcus I make frequent trips to this area. Why I have waited 5 years to come and experience this I do not know. I had the best ribs I have ever eaten but as my husband and I were enjoying our meal the most beautiful plates of sandwiches and hamburgers were floating by. (I hear from a friend who went during spring break that he had the best hamburger he had ever eaten). The service was excellent. I felt we had more than one waiter because everyone seemed to be concerned that we had everything we needed. To get so much good food along with the great outdoor feeling at such a inexpensive price is a rarity.    [21 Mar 2003 19:33:06]

MMMM Good!!!!!!!!
My friend was insisting on eating at this restraunt. I was a little hesitant not having eaten there before, just wanting to stay with my same old, same old. I am so glad that she convinced me to go here. I will go here again and again and again! The food was excellent. I ordered the Chicken Alcapulco and it was the most flavorful dish I have had in a long time. I never knew that chicken could be so soft and juicy, yet fully cooked. I had a side of garlic mashed potatoes and they were to die for. My friend ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and also had the garlic mashed potatoes. She had been looking forward to that Chicken Fried steak all day! Now I know why one would crave the Gristmill!!    [05 Jun 2003 19:58:31]

OVERRATED
After hearing wonderful things about the Gristmill I decided to try this restaurant located on the river. The service was cold, disorderly, and unfriendly. The food was bland and underwhelming. Overall.....overrated    [18 Apr 2005 11:23:30]

Gristmill is Grrrrreat!
The food here is consistently flavorful and well-cooked, from the filet mignon to the Gristmill burger sandwich. The best sides are the round cut fries and Gruene beans (fresh green beans sauteed in olive oil, butter and garlic). Full bar and also consistently good service. 3 large dining rooms and good river views from the outside decks and inside too.    [28 Apr 2005 21:54:11]
