Is there anything better? When conversation comes around to Home and "the good old days" My thoughts always include the Pittsburg hot links shared with my grandfather. Every Saturday during the Pittsburg Cattle Auction we would go into town and sit in Franklins and eat about 3 dozen between us. Add to that a glass of bottled Dr. Pepper, it is/was sheer heaven. Having moved away from the area many years ago, I am always begging anyone who is going thru either Gilmer or Pittsburg to pick me up 3-10 dozen. I have found that I must always increase my order by several dozen because , for some reason, what I order and what shows up is short a doz or so......
My only complaint is that you cant find them in Houston. [26 Dec 2002 14:31:33]

Is There Anything Better?... I remember Franklin's.my Mom's favorite place to eat. She loved their hamburgers. Remember the refrigerator smokers on the left as you walked into Franklin's from the back street, and the ever imposing sight of the grill on the right? Long ago, those links were six for a quarter, with crackers, and the Dr Pepper was six cents..what a meal! No sham Dr Pepper with corn syrup for us, it came straight from Dublin, made with pure cane sugar.(There IS a difference) Failing that, Coke was bottled just down the street. There was a heavy deposit of grease(before Cleanliness was next to Godliness in resturants)evident on the overhead pipes, and the fan blades were coated with the stuff. I still make occasional trips home to visit relatives, and at fifty-five, with increased cholesterol, I still eat links, and damn the results and Dr's comments! [05 Jun 2004 23:19:17]

PITTSBURG HOTLINKS I was raised on Pittsburg HotLinks. I am addicted to them. I can not go to East Texas that I do not stop and buy at least 1 dozen for myself. I could probably eat 3 or 4 dozen alone. They are wonderful! And the people that own Pittsburg Hotlinks are very friendly and helpful especially if it is your 1st vist or even your 100th visit. Just good down home people and atmosphere. [10 Dec 2004 15:11:32]

They're not red! What color are they? This is usually how I debunk all the people who tell me that they have eaten Pittsburg Hotlinks. I was born in Pittsburg and my mom worked at Gene's Hotlink stand (Pittsburg Hotlinks) on Marshall. Franklins was less than a block away. I now live in Oklahoma and I introduce people to the taste of my hometown every year via Fed.Ex

Home Cooking - Great! Pittsburg Hot Links has not only the best Hot Links made but also great homemade cornbread, jalapeno corn bread, chili, homemade potato salad and coleslaw, bottled pop and oh so much more.
