Bit of an Adventure Okay, Port A is known for delicious seafood. We love Castaways for their fried red snapper. But the last evening we spent in Port A, we were in a hurry for a simple supper so we went to Subway.
Problem 1: the closing time is not posted on the door. We had just finished a sunset cruise so it was getting late. (This was summer 2005.) Fortunately, we were served but we just barely made it. Having the hours clearly posted would have saved us some anxiety.
Problem 2: the young woman at the counter frequently yelled back to a co-worker elsewhere in the prep area. That was distracting, especially as the woman had an odd American accent which was difficult to understand and she seemed pretty annoyed at her co-worker. We felt we were stepping into a quarrel.
Problem 3: Whenever this young woman helped White customers she wasn't as sassy as with Hispanic customers, although her accent still made it hard to be sure. Interestingly, she is not White herself.
Problem 4: We had paid for 3 full meals, plus an extra drink. When we asked for a small cup for water, she said it cost something like 27 cents. She did say we didn't have to pay for it, but that is what it cost...so we paid.
We have eaten at many a Subway in 4-5 different states and this was the oddest experience we've had at one. It's easy to believe that all outlets of a given brand fast-food place will be the same but this one convinced us that it isn't always so.
In fairness, the sandwiches were great! But we won't go back. We'd rather go to DQ if we aren't in the mood for seafood. [09 Sep 2005 16:45:33]
