Good Tex-Mex food in a historic setting
Che's is located inside the historic steamboat hotel La Borde House (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). A small, indoor-cafe style Mexican restaurant, Che's serves typical Tex-Mex food such as enchiladas and tacos, as well as standard American fare such as burgers and fries. While the food tastes great, it is fairly typical of the region. Yet the atmosphere -- surroundings of old hardwood walls and floors, and a stunning mural of a 19th century village scene -- is priceless, and the servers treat you instantly as family. Recommended Dishes: The Chicken Fried Steak, prepared milanesa-style, is to die for ... coated just right, cooked crispy yet juicy. Try it without gravy but with just a squirt of lemon, with Che's thick steak fries on the side.
