Make history
The Stagecoach Inn restaurant offers a unique dining experience that every Central Texas visitor should get a chance to enjoy. You'll get neither the benefit or limitations of a printed menu. Seasoned waitresses(years employed are exhibited on their name tags.. and the numbers often span several decades)will recite the day's offerings of several meals per each of 3-4 prices. The entrees seldom vary, but come across as home-cooked southern plantation fare. If it is offered to you, the prime rib ranks as my favorite. The salads are simple but tasty and will include an offer of a tomato aspic salad for the few with a taste for such. The all-time favorite dessert is the Strawberry Kiss. It is a meringue baked into a crispy, melt-in-your-mouth cloud topped with a scoop of ice cream and drenched in sweet strawberries. Unfortunately, you wont be offered this treat at lunchtime, but the custard pies and other choices won't leave you feeling cheated. Feel confident that you will enjoy your meal at the Stagecoach. While the cuisine won't likely win any national awards, the consistency, service and ambiance will draw you back again.    [27 Aug 2003 00:20:36]

To Die For
The Stagecoach Inn was my place to dine while living in nearby Hraker Heights and now resides in my heart and memory as I now live in North Carolina.
The prime rib was always the dinner of choice. I savored every bite and welcomed each course as it was placed before me with pure anticipation.
The twice baked potato was nothing short of fabulous. Everything superb.
You cannot make the trip and not have the Merengue Kiss. I will be making a trip to Texas soon and will once again enjoy this dance upon my palette.
I would recommend this establishment to anyone who desires dining at its finest and enjoys a wonderful historical atmosphere while enjoying a most scrumptious meal.

The Best in Salado Dining.
A truly great place to spend some time dining in Salado. The charm of the old inn is outstanding. The food was perfect, the service is quite good. The prices are fair, but all in all the best restaurant in town.    [01 Aug 2005 21:42:12]

A Must Do.
Not quite a stagecoach stop any longer, but Ma & Pa never had it so good. About as gooda' spot to relax and dine as there is on the old I-35 trail.
Service and atmosphere is all you could ask for at this quaint, yet country elegant restaurant. The food...no gourmet fare here, just good offerings of Prime Rib, Chicken Fried Texas Steak, and more. Oh, don't forget the famous hushpuppies.    [20 Jan 2006 23:23:19]

Good. Most of the Time.
I have eaten at Stagecoach many times and it has been good most of the time. The last 2 times I have gone recently once in July and once in August. Both of the waitresses were a little snippy. This past time was the worst. We waited an hour to get our food (which was salads). When we mentioned it the waitress said they had a big party in front of us, that's why it was taking so long. Then when the salads came my sister's had two long black hairs in it (she is blond) When we complained about that they said she wouldn't have to pay for her meal like they were doing us a favor. Most places wouldn't have made anyone in the party pay. Like I said most of my experiences have been good, but I will not be going back any time soon.    [22 Aug 2006 17:47:39]

The stage don't stop here anymore
The Stagecoach Inn used to be famous, probably because of lack of local competition. We have dined (eaten?) there twice, and each time were disappointed. The tomato aspic looked like Campbell's tomato soup straight out of the can, the ham was watery and overcooked, the fried chicken lukewarm, and the "famous" strawberry merinque was awful. To top it all off, the tables are crammed into the available space and you get to hear every word the other diners say, not to mention the wait staff. There are better places to dine--in Austin.    [02 Feb 2007 11:34:16]
