Wonderful Food has never been so original. Although Manuel's moved to South Padre Island their recipes didn't change and neither did their wonderful friendly environment. [22 Mar 2002 09:21:32]

Valley Homestyle Cookin' This cafe serves up unfussy, great food. There is nothing fancy about the food, recipes, or decor, but the place works. The service is good, the staff is beyond friendly, and the clientele is eclectic: locals, fisherpeople, recreational athletes talking gadgets and technique, and tourists in the know. About the food: ask the food for guidance. Their "tortilla" plates, for example, are similar to Ethiopian injera dishes. If you're not from South Texas, you need to forget about the Pappasito's, Chuy's, etc, presentation. No MBA branding here; no faux perky college student waiters. You are at the source of Texas Mexican food--cross yourself, undo the top button of your shorts, and eat, baby! [05 May 2006 00:16:29]
