Atmosphere
The nondescript cinder block building disguises a truely great dining experience. Cracked tile floors, TV blaring a violent video, Momma and sister cooking in the wide open kitchen and Tivo, handing out poorly printed menus and taking orders and shouting them to the cooks. Picture that. Now sit at a rickety table that you believe was cleaned because that is what you would prefer. The food is great Mexican food, simply put! Expect the cooks to come out and sit at a table and eat their dinner during a slow spell. A friendlier, better dinner we did not have while in the Big Bend area. Highly, highly recomended. one of the top 5 mexican restaurants anywhere
We ate there three different days in June. Everything was made from scratch, including the tortilla chips. The chile verde was sublime. My wife loved the chile relleno and our children devoured the enchiladas. On two occasions I had the combo, a delicious barrage of flavors. Nereda, Tivo's wife, told us they had purchased some land across the highway and were going to build a new restaurant with actual central air conditioning. Hole in the wall!
This is our main stay while at Terlingua Ranch The staff is friendly, the food is good. It is a great place to meet traverlers from all over, it is nothing to sit next to and visit with strangers as the seating is sort of family style.    [12 Sep 2004 23:21:06]
