Best In The World For down-home cooking and atmosphere, you'll not beat Allen's in Sweetwater. It's a small wonder that upon my last meal there, everyone at my table and the half that I had met from the next table had driven from all around to eat there. Yes, that's right, out of all those I met, the only locals were the staff. I could only wish there were a place like this closer to me, as it is a 100-mile drive to enjoy what they have to offer. It is worth your time to check it out. [07 Aug 2003 01:16:15]

The Best Fried Chicken in the World This is by far the best restaurant in the state of Texas. Everyone is so hospitable and the food was amazing. This was my first time to be there, and I live over 500 miles away...but I will definitely make it a part of my route when travelling through that part of Texas! [03 Sep 2003 12:54:53]

Fried Chicken Lover's Heaven The fried chicken is the best that I have ever had. There vegetables and other side dishes are very good. The cobbler for dessert is awesome. If you want great food and are very hungry, then Allens is the place to go. [26 Dec 2003 10:59:53]

Worth driving from South America to visit I spent a couple of years of my childhood in Sweetwater. Sunday after church lunch was always take out fried chicken from Allen“s. Now I live and work in Brazil, South America. I only make it back to the USA about once every four years. Suffice it to say, that whenever I am within 200 miles of Sweetwater I make it a point to drive out of my way for lunch. The friendly service, the family style atmosphere, and the great southern cooking make it well worth the sacrifice to get there. And it is doggone cheap!!! [23 Apr 2005 12:31:42]

Yum, Yum!!! No other place like Allen's! There's no other place like Allen's. I went there 35 years ago as a little boy and still go every few years and it's still as exciting. Unless you have a large party you will be seated with others you don't know and it's fun. Everything they serve in large quan. and may not be like my Grannie cooked but is their Grannie's recipe since it's still run by the original family. Serving dishes are even old bowls and stuff like my grannie uses. Only open for lunch so go early before they run out of one of your favorites. [24 Sep 2006 09:25:31]

Damn Right! I'm the new manager at Allen's Evening Buffet! I've lived around this restaurant for about 30 years. It has become the standard by which I judge all restaurants! I am a cousin to Billy Allen (3rd generation owner/operator). I have worked in the restaurant biz for nearly 10 years. NOTHING come close to this! Imagine taking your Sunday afternoon or your annual Thanksgiving visit to Grandma's house and turning that Sunday [or Holiday] into a restaurant... That's what we've got, baby!!! come dine on the best darned fried chicken and southern style vegatabeles you've had since you sat down with your Granny and said prayers before you ate! If you're traveling or if you're looking for something truly unique in Texas, this is it!! Come see me and save some room for some home-made cobbler! (We're still using Grandma Lizzy's recipes after 54 years!!) [26 Jul 2007 01:43:31]
