excellent! My parents, husband and I recently ate at Cheeves (7-03). The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent! It is so refreshing to have some place in Central Texas that is not a chain, is like something you would find in the big cities, yet with an attentive staff and excellent food. The Redfish was wonderful; my husband's prime rib was cooked just right, and my parents' filet and lobster was tender and obviously fresh! You have to save room for dessert, even if you split it- bananas foster prepared tableside was a "10"! has potential, but.. Cheeves has some potential, but due to poor service our food was dried out and overcooked (ie it was left under a heat lamp for an hour). We got there and ordered right away. Then we sat for an hour with only water. Finally our drinks arrived with salads & bread. I was halfway through my salad when our entrees came out. I ordered prime rib medium-rare; it was medium-well, tough, & dry. I asked to send it back they said that it was the last piece of prime rib in the house and instead offered it for free. Meanwhile my wife ordered the tenderloin, also medium-rare. It was again medium-well to well done. It came with a sauce that was very sticky and dried out. It looked as if it had been sitting for a long time. That would also explain why both of our dishes were overcooked. They must have prepared them when we ordered, which was about 1.5 hours before we got them. Finally we ordered coffee & a pear tart. The coffee was terrible (very weak) and the tart was only slightly better than what you can get from your grocery store bakery. For a place charging $30+ for an entrée there is no excuse for this. The Bluehead Special I don't know if it is by plan, or it just happened that way. What could be a great place to eat has turned into an old folks home dining room.
Seems like everyone dining os 60+. I don't know if the owner caters to the elderly, or if his advertising is geared towards them. This place is just plain OLD!!
Our food was good. The service was average. The prices were fair. Now I just need to wait 30 years before I go back, so I fit into the age group. [09 Mar 2004 14:01:27]

Best Steak! I don't even like red meat, but Cheeve's brothers' filet mignon is sooo wonderful that I make an exception! I have been there multiple times and each time it was great food and great service. The merlot reduction sauce they put on the filets is delicious. I always order mine well-done and it is still tender. great food! [08 Jan 2005 22:18:55]

Lunch The menu is nice, prices reasonable, but service is too slow for those of us on a lunch hour. I know it isn't fast food, but takes too long for a sandwich or salad. [09 Sep 2005 11:44:53]

best steak by far! I have been to Cheeves Bros. on numerous occasions, and each time I am very pleased! The merlot reduction sauce on the tenderloin is delicious and my personal favorite. Then to end the evening with their delicious 8 layer chocolate malt cake, perfect way to end the evening! I highly recommend this place for special occasions, one won't be disappointed! We took our son and his wife there because we wanted something nicer than a pizza place and didn't want to drive very far. The decor is nice. The piano music was nice, not a large crowd but it was a week night. The service was poor, the waitress didn't turn our order in and we had to ask several times for bread and water. The meal was good but very pricey. With Tax and tip over 200 for 4 and that is with us sharing entrees. The coffee was great, very strong. The chocolate cake is not the best choice, a bit dry. The cheese cake with strawberries was terrific, flambe at the table for a nice touch. [28 Nov 2006 22:00:24]

Very Pleased Repeat Customer I think Cheeves Bros Steakhouse is the best kept secret in Central Texas! I work for a company in the Temple area and seem to be in Cheeves Bros. weekly, either with important clients or with my family. I have never been disappointed with my service or my food selection. I have tried just about everything on the menu however, the Blue Cheese Tenderloin cant be beat! The atmosphere is very elegant with the Piano playing reminiscent of the late fifties Jazz and Rhythm & Blues. Its refreshing to have a place to entertain clients/friends that reaks of class and sophistication. Overall, I would definately recommend this establishment to those who want fine dinning and an escape from the average small town food selection offered in Temple. It is on the more expensive side, however, it is well worth it! [23 Mar 2007 18:38:10]
