Famous for chicken-fried steak. Renovations to the Tomball original have diluted some of the color, but country cooking still draws a crowd. - CitySearch - suggest change

Good's Cafe Still the Best I remember the original Goodson's Cafe (I went to Tomball schools) and I was just wondering if the orginal building was moved to the new location on Tomball Parkway and just added on to? [13 Jun 2002 09:47:53]

The Old Building... Mrs. Goodson's old cafe' is still right where it was when the oil patch was in bloom and folks were landing helicopters in the pasture to have lunch. [10 Jun 2003 00:57:27]

Goodson's Goodness I have always enjoyed Goodson's and their legendary chicken fried steak! There is no better place to try one of Texas' oldest traditions! This is definitely one reason you must stop in Tomball if you ever have the opportunity. [04 May 2004 14:34:04]

Not What it Used to Be I started going to Goodson's perhaps 20 years ago and indeed I had never had a better chicken fried steak anywhere. But after not eating there (I live in New Orleans) for about five years I went back recently. It isn't what it used to be. Twice I retried the place and the Chicken Fried Steak was thin (although it looked thick it was about 25% meat and 75% batter and the meat was marred by numerous areas of chewy grizzle. It was also only lukewarm and the service was slow. I understand that things change but this one wasn't a positive one. Although the restaurant is now a lot glitzier the food is not at all the same as when the original Goodsons owned the place. [28 Nov 2004 10:12:00]

Best Cafe For Miles Around The chicken fried steak is superior, but you should try their chicken tenders, they're scrumptous. Their fried okra is the best anywhere. All the vegetables are really good, not just a side order to fill your plate. Can't leave out those homemade yeast rolls. The rolls alone (well, maybe with a little honey) will keep you coming back for more. Very friendly staff. Always enjoy my time there. [16 Jun 2005 03:09:46]

Great cafe Whenever we visit Tomball, we like to eat here. Our party had the fried catfish, fried shrimp dinner, and the vegetable plate. Its our favorite place for a variety of choices, like steaks, chicken fried steak, seafood and chicken. Great salads too. The dinner rolls are very fresh. [02 May 2007 22:05:51]
